Judge tells £5M arsonist: 'Prison would make you better criminal'

A TEENAGER who caused £5M fire damage to an historic church has walked free from court.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, damaged a kerosene tank in the grounds of the Grade II listed St Thomas’s Church, Newhey.

Bolton Crown Court was told he then used a cigarette lighter to ignite leaking fuel – causing a blaze that engulfed the church.
