Katie Hodson-Thomas is the Member for Carine . In 2006 as a member of
the Shadow Cabinet Katie is responsible for the Shadow Portfolios of
Tourism and Small business.
Katie was first elected to the
Western Australian Parliament on 14
December 1996 and re-elected on 10 February 2001. Her employment prior
to entering Parliament was Executive Officer with the Boating Industry
Association of Western Australia.
Katie was born in South Australia and received her education at Norwood
High School. Her mother was born in Brasta, Greece, and her father was
born in Bielefeld, Germany. She has 2 sons, Curtis and Carl.
Since being elected as the Member for Carine, Katie has been an Acting
Speaker 8/9/1999 to 5/5/2004. Katie is a member of the Community
Development and Justice Standing Committee. Katie was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for
Health from
22 December 1999 - 15 February 2001.
Katie has also served on a number of Committees being the
Parliamentary Services Committee; Procedures and Privileges Committee, Select Committee on the Misuse of
Drugs Act 1981; the Select Committee on the Human Reproductive
Technology Act 1981; and was Chair on the following Committees: the
Aquatic Tour Industry Training Needs Committee; the Ministerial Advisory
Council on Mental Health; and the Special Safety Group on the Emergency
Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBS).
Katie has represented the WA Branch of the Commonwealth
Parliamentary Association attending Conferences in Melbourne in 1997 and
Namibia in 2002. She also attended the World Congress on Families held
in Geneva in 1999.
As the Member for Carine, Katie has worked consistently to assist her
constituents. The completion of the Reid Highway was a major project in
the electorate with Katie working hard in helping constituents to
resolve issues that arose as a consequence of the highway.
Katie is a Justice of the Peace and a member of Karrinyup Rotary. She is
also Joint Patron of the Gwelup Progress Association, Vice Patron of the
Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club and Trigg island Surf Lifesaving Club as
well as the Patron of the Sussex Hostel Parents and Friends Association
