Lunch Presentation: Follow Your Passions: Imagine Living a Passionate Life, Doing What You Love!

Presenter: Lori Anderson Knapper

Do you want more excitement, meaning and fulfillment in your work? ·Are you looking for a new direction but not sure what that is?

In this Presentation, we will discuss:

·The sure-fire principle that will guarantee you a passionate life. ·The importance of doing what you love. ·How clarity is essential to live a passionate life.

There has been much buzz lately about the importance of following your passions and doing what you love. Everyone from Oprah to Donald Trump to Donny Deutsche has shared that living your passions is the key to true happiness and success. Yet, a Harris Interactive Study released in 2005 showed that only 20% of working Americans are passionate about what they do, while 80% are unfulfilled and dissatisfied. Are you experiencing the 20% or the 80%? Aligning your work with your passion has the power to transform your life!

"We are at our very best, and we are happiest, when we are fully engaged in work we enjoy...it gives meaning to our time off and comfort to our sleep. It makes everything else in life so wonderful, so worthwhile." --Earl Nightingale

Lunch Presentation: Why Horses - What Equine Experiential Learning Can Teach Us About Authentic Leadership

Presenter:  Julie Puentes

Lately, much has been written about the importance of authenticity and presence in regards to leadership development. Experiential Learning is a very effective way to introduce these concepts which are notoriously difficult to define and teach. Recently, horses have been recognized as some of our most effective teachers in the process of training authentic and compassionate leaders.

In this presentation, we will explore the ways horses can help leaders develop their emotional intelligence by increasing self-awareness and understanding their impact on others. Because they are prey animals, horses have a highly developed ability to respond to the most subtle changes in stance, intention, and even breathing of other horses or predators. Remarkably, this is an ability they can easily transfer to human beings.

They also make clear how much of our communication with others is non-verbal. Julie will share some of her personal insights and experiences with horses and what it has taught her and her clients about leading from the heart.

Our Speaker's Bio:

Julie Puentes is a leadership and personal development coach who is devoted to helping leaders understand how self-awareness and authenticity are crucial to exceptional leadership and job performance and how this can have a significant positive impact their professional and personal relationships. Julie obtained her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Ethics from St. Edwards University and has a Bachelors degree in Psychology. Having combined her life-long fascination and knowledge of horses with her experience, Julie is currently enjoying her ideal career. As owner of "Bridges Solutions" (www.leadershipbridges.com), Julie has experience coaching and consulting entrepreneurs and organizations such as Heineken U.S.A and Green Mountain Energy. She also studied with "Leadership Outfitters" for over a year perfecting her skills using horses in leadership development and coaching.

Lunch Presentation: "Five ways to make a living: Traditional, Entrepreneurial, Non Profit, Self- Actualization, and Visionary."

Presenter:  Diane Carroll

At this month's luncheon, Diane Carroll, Founder and CEO of The Maverick Center, will present for us "Five ways to make a living: Traditional, Entrepreneurial, Non Profit, Self-Actualization, and Visionary."

When thinking about ways to make a living many individuals generally consider only two categories. They consider either working for someone else or entrepreneurship. Some try both. Others have gone the Non Profit route. Very few consider becoming a visionary. There are (at least) five ways to make a living. This talk will broaden the scope to making a living that will likely include several or all of the following models: the Corporate Model (working for someone else), the Entrepreneurial Model (traditional American Dream), the Visionary Model, and The Maverick Center's proprietary Self-Actualization Business Model (reaching for one's full potential while balancing the real you in the real world).

We will discuss some flaws of each model and discuss in more detail the Self- Actualization Business Model.

Afterwards, our discussion will be about how to look at the models differently and understand how others are successfully blending the five ways to make a living.

Diane Carroll is the Founder/CEO of the Maverick Center, LLC. Diane is a "design a life and living" specialist, teaching adults how to live on their own terms. The Maverick Center's "Design a Maverick Living" is the process of creating, changing or building ways of making money that closely aligns with the owner's value system and integrates their multiple ideas, goals, and reasons for living. Diane founded the Maverick Center LLC (www.MaverickCenter.com) and started teaching youth/parents along with adults their faster/safer/cheaper make a living practices and planning. Her company works with leaders on quadruple bottom line (work that produces positive results in people, profit, planet, and purpose).

Diane co-authored a book with Brian Tracy, Mark Victor Hanson, Robert Middleton and a host of other gurus entitled: "Create the Business Breakthrough You Want: Secrets and Strategies from the World's Greatest Mentors" which has been endorsed by Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Ken Blanchard, co-author of The One-Minute Manager.

Lunch Presentation: Practicing Appreciative Awareness at Work

Presenter:  Henry Novak

henry

 · How are you showing up for work?

· What kind of stories is your mind unconsciously telling you about yourself?

· How can you quickly seize upon the affirmative, the positive that exists as potential, in every moment?

Our February speaker, Austin attorney, scholar, philosopher, and social historian Henry Novak, spent seven years as an aggressive assistant U. S. attorney establishing a formidable track record prosecuting high-profile, white-collar fraud criminal cases against corporate executives and public officials. A profound spiritual awakening in his late thirties opened his heart and mind to deep inquiry into the purpose of his life, the nature of the material world, and the dynamics that motivate the conduct of people in the business world.

Among his discoveries in the following twenty-five years of professional life was that environments - the situations, circumstances, and conditions that we encounter in our daily business affairs - are neutral, that life waits for us to impregnate it with meaning, and we do just that with the manner in which we interpret and understand our experiences. We are unconsciously programmed to see the world in ways that are unique to each of us. From the day we are born, our mind begins to conceptualize our memories and experiences into a "story" that very soon establishes our individuality and determines who we show up as in the world. How we show up in the business world determines the results we produce.

Join us as Henry blends wisdom, spiritual understanding, positive psychology, and legal insight in sharing with us how the unconscious scripts that direct our lives can be reframed into powerful, affirming stories that can be used to cultivate the practice of being present for work with a heart-mind that is open, nimble, and quick to appreciate the positive, generative potential inherent in the present moment-the practice of "Appreciative Awareness".

Feb. 13, 2008, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Wisdom After Work

13604 Caldwell Dr. #65

Austin, TX

* additional directions are below

The Wisdom at Work Council is pleased and excited to announce a new series of evening sessions we're calling "Wisdom After Work". In these sessions, we will focus on deepening our understanding of universal spiritual wisdom principles and how they can be applied in our day-to-day experience of work and life.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for WAW community members to get to know one another while building a "community of practice".

Although we will provide some facilitation, guidance and structure, this will be an opportunity for us to explore universal wisdom together and to discuss ways we can integrate supportive practices into our professional lives. Whenever possible, the previous month's luncheon speaker will join us as we further explore the topic they discussed.

Our first "Wisdom After Work" will take place on February 13th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the home of Nogie King. (directions below) Michael Skye, who shared his "Judgment Window" exercise with us at the January 25th luncheon, will join us as we continue our conversations about the universal spiritual principle of "Non-judgment".

The following are some questions we plan to discuss:

- What is the spiritual basis of non-judgment?

- What does it mean to "practice" non-judgment?

- How can it be applied in our professional lives?

- What benefits might we expect from that practice?

Additional Directions: From 183 north, exit Lake Creek. Take the U-Turn lane and head back south along the frontage road. Take a right at the 4th street. This will be Caldwell Dr. It is the small road just after a car body shop with a car crashed into a fake wall. At night this is lighted. Follow Caldwell straight into a new development called The Cottages at Lake Creek. #65 is a one story, blue cottage tucked behind a two story #66 on your left. Parking is in small pull-outs at various locations, at the pool and along the "street" in front of #66. Please just be mindful that your parking does not block traffic. (It is all easier than it sounds!)

Lunch Presentation: "The Judgment Window": A Tool for Seeing and Speaking to the Heart of Another

Presenter:  Michael Skye

Web Bug from http://img.constantcontact.com/letters/images/spacer.gif
michael skye

Business success in the 21st century requires organizational cultures that encourage and experience increasing levels of trust, transparency and authenticity. Because work is, at its core, a fundamental human endeavor, leaders need to master tools that empower and sustain high-powered relationships.

Yet, most of us live in cultures, both at home and at work, that are full of criticism and judgment. We perceive criticism, we anticipate judgment and we beat ourselves up before others can make us wrong. We all naturally and reflexively create walls of judgment when faced with the negativity of criticism.

Come join us as Michael Skye, founder of VisionForce walks us through "The Judgment Window", a tool that brings down our walls of judgment and defense so that people can feel truly seen and honored.

As Michael demonstrates this simple yet powerful relationship tool, you can learn how to:

- Breakdown the walls that create distance between you and your co- workers, your family and other important relationships.

- Shift from judgment to extreme compassion with anyone, instantly.

- Transform a good relationship into a powerful alliance.

- Turn your critics into allies.

Please join us for this stimulating and transformational experience.

Michael Skye, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer for Austin's own VisionForce, works with a new breed of impassioned change agents, entrepreneurs and visionary leaders from around the world who are giving their lives to stand for all of humanity. His visionary leadership training, VisionForce Boot Camp, is part of the One Million Visionaries Campaign. Boot Camp and the on-line course, Visionary Mind Shifts, are powerful wake-up calls for those who are ready to move from taking positions to making a stand. It is being applauded by many local leaders, such as Richard Halpin of American Youthworks, Jeannette Peaten of Big Austin, Brandy Clark of Austin Eco Network and Nogie King of Wisdom at Work.
