On December 8, 1998, AT&T and IBM announced a series of strategic agreements under which AT&T will acquire IBM's global network business, and the two companies will enter into outsourcing contracts with each other. AT&T's acquisition of the IBM global network is occurring in phases throughout 1999 as legal and regulatory requirements are met in each of the countries in which the business operates. The acquisition of the business, its assets and the transfer of employees have been completed in the following countries:

For those countries not listed above in which the business operates, AT&T and IBM are working diligently to complete the necessary legal and regulatory requirements to allow AT&T to acquire and operate IBM's network services. This work should be completed within the next 180 days. Until then, local Internet service in these countries will continue to be provided by IBM*. Customers serviced by IBM should use the AT&T Business Internet Services Web pages to make changes to their account during this period. Please note the list of countries on this page will be updated to reflect additional countries that transfer from IBM to AT&T.

On October 1, 1999, IBM Internet Connection Services changed its name to AT&T Business Internet Services. This AT&T Internet service is based on the same technology and infrastructure as the award-winning IBM Internet Connection Services. All IBM Internet Connection Services customers were notified of this change through e-mail and dialer pop-up messages.
