Despite the "supermodel" author's denials, this book is obviously quite autobiographical - not least because Dahl's lead character is devastatingly beautiful. Our heroine's mother is a real "bolter", and this tale chronicles how her family cope with such a feckless matriarch. The start and end, set in the present day, are a little nauseating, but the rest is really entertaining and amusingly written.

"The deliciously succulent meaty treats it sells are from animals reared on the estate and worth spending a little extra for. Around Christmas they do a brisk trade in organic turkeys, too".
