Highlights


  • The estimated resident population of the South Island reached 1.01 million at 30 June 2007, exceeding one million for the first time.

 

  • The fastest-growing regions were Auckland (up 1.7 percent) and Canterbury (up 1.3 percent) in the June 2007 year.

 

  • The Queenstown-Lakes, Selwyn, Rodney and Waimakariri districts were the fastest-growing territorial authorities in the June 2007 year.

 

  • Over half of all New Zealanders (53.1 percent) were living in four main urban areas (Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch) at 30 June 2007.
