Camp Freeland Leslie PDF Print E-mail

Beautiful Lake Emrick    Heading up to Camp Freeland Leslie...

Dear Pack Camp Coordinators, Webelos Leaders, and Webelos Parents:

You have probably heard a lot in the news about high water conditions in some parts of Wisconsin.  Camp Freeland Leslie is sitting high and dry and the staff has been busy preparing the camp and program.  They are eagerly awaiting your arrival!  The sandy soil at camp provides for excellent drainage; also our lake is a natural lake and has no dams or levees to be concerned about.  In fact the extra water has helped bring up the extremely low water level of Lake Emrick caused by several years of drought type conditions.  The boating and swimming on Lake Emrick should be better than ever!

However, while camp is high and safe, please be aware that high water levels on the Wisconsin River are causing some road closures that seem to be constantly changing!  We have been working closely with the Sheriff’s Department and other agencies to monitor the conditions and road closings.
As of June 17th, portions of Route 39 south of camp were closed.  We have also heard that portions of I-94 may be closed.

One useful website is:
www.dot.state.wi.us/travel/incident-alerts.htm which lists road closings.
Also...check this link for a PDF of Columbia County closed roads and links to surrounding counties with road closures: http://www.co.columbia.wi.us/ColumbiaCounty/Default.aspx?tabid=950.

We have established a route to camp that is clear of flooding, but may be congested with traffic. Please allow for longer travel times due to the increased traffic. This route can be found via Google Maps here: http://tinyurl.com/3wlumw.

We look forward to seeing you!

Keeping Scouts Safe  Keeping Scouting Safe

In keeping with the National Policy and efforts to ensure a safe environment for our Scouts, a number of registered volunteers in the Three Fires Council will be contacted by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America regarding a background check via a letter on June 2, 2008. The letter and background checks are a planned part of the BSA efforts to keep Scouts safe. The BSA has had Youth Protection efforts in place now for 20 years. These efforts have helped to ensure a safe environment for youth and adults in Scouting. We have led the way in these efforts and will continue to look at ways to keep Scouting a safe haven for youth.

To learn more about this, please open & read this letter from our Three Fires Scout Executive.
