My God, what have they done?
I'll start with the obvious problems: there wasn't a thrilling second in this movie. I was never on edge. The acting was so awful it was almost comical. In fact, I was laughing aloud at times. The plotline? Lemme give you a summary: a scary wind blows through the grass, and depending on how many people are standing in said grass, a toxin may or may not be released, causing the people to kill themselves. And, as the movie progresses, the grass becomes increasingly sensitive to humans and will release the toxin more often. So whereas the toxin was originally triggered only in major cities, by the end of the movie even one person standing in a field could set it off. There was never a real explanation for why the toxin only began releasing now, but if there was one, I'm sure it would be stupid. Also, every other line had the word "happen" in it. "What's happening?" "I can't believe this has happened!" "Why is it happening now?". The dialogue is unbelievably childish and retarded. Maybe this whole movie was done in a joking tone, but if you go in expecting an actual serious film, you will leave confused and unsatisfied.

This film is so miss understood. It's a shame because it's one of the most original films I've seen in a long time and it doesn't fit into any genre I can think of. It's mainly a comedy but does contain suspense/horror elements. The acting isn't bad at all but extremely stylized to the point of absurdity. He is like Hitchcock. He is like Brain De Palma. This film is his Body Double. A major FU to all critics and audience members who hate on him because of their preconceived notions of him and his films. Anyone with two eyes and ears can plainly see he isn't being serious at all. C'mon , his clearly making fun of his own movie Signs throughout this Happening. For example, the IPOD video sequence in the restaurant is exactly like the birthday party alien scene in Signs. Not to mention this films contains some truly amazing killing scenes that stick with you long after the credits roll. The low angle of the construction worker jumping to their deaths in one of the best images I've seen so far this summer. Trust me, see this film with an open mind and have fun. It's not suppose to be as serious as you think or assume because it's an M.Night film.

What can I say? I believe the idea behind the movie is great... but the script is terrible, the direction is bad and the acting is a real shame... Big dissapointment from M. Night

Once again, Peter, we are on the same page! M. Night peaked at Sixth Sense and it's been downhill ever since. It's also all a part of the Hollywood agenda: it's "in" to be "green" right now so let's put it in a nice propaganda-ridden film. No thanks! I'll take my $21 back, even if it DID include Mark Wahlberg (who looks awful nice in a sweater vest...but not enough to make up for that bad acting ::shudder::)
However, I won't deny the creepiness of the film: Mrs. Jones smacking orphans and head-butting the windows? Go back to "Carrie" Betty Buckley--you're giving me the shakes!

Actually, I have just watched the film. And it was a frightening experience. I think, Night is getting his groove back. I think I just missed the scene with the people jumping off the building (I´m in Brazil). Was it before the scene with the cop shooting himself?

It is official Shyamalen is no longer making his great movies like signs and the six signs. He isnt making a strong connecton with his characters as he used to.The script was dreadful please, please shyamalen do not write scripts for any of your movies. This movie was lacking suspense, the death were ok there were not really that disturbing to me i felt like PG-13. The ending was fair to end off the movie. I agree with travers with this, not much is happening.
