Wilfred barks again

' At last.... a comedy that does not fall within the modem of the current oh so predictable comedies.'
'This show is so Aussie. You just gotta get a dog like that.'
'O-M-G this is such a funny show!'
'Wilfred clearly defines Australians as (either) mainstream ignorant and those who get it!' - TV Tonight readers.

That rascally mutt, Wilfred is getting a repeat season on SBS.

If you've missed this series then you've really missed out. This is the most original local comedy since Kath & Kim (let's face it even Thank God You're Here was derivative).

The guy in the dog suit, who continually berates his owner's new boyfriend, leads a dynamic little triangle that works wonderfully without the need for lavish production values, a laugh track or marquee names. Its premise is so bold it demands attention.

And it's been the show that has attracted more fan acclaim and more search hits on this site than any other.

Now as soon as the first eight episodes end (May 7) it's having an instant repeat season at 10pm from Thursday May 10.

Review and comments

'You have to see this series to believe it! The relationship between the dog and boyfriend is brilliant. It draws you into a surreal world.'
'There is so much in this multifaceted comedy / drama I watched it over and over to make sure I didn`t miss a thing.'
'This show is funnier than anything in such a dark and scary way!'
'Wilfred ur a champ lad, I'll have to shout ya a bong sumtime.'
'After seeing Wilfred, I looked at my dog asleep on the floor and thought "That's what goes through your mind"'.

Andrew G: Mr Clean!

Be careful of mobile phones with cameras.

At the Rockhampton auditions for Australian Idol host Andrew G was caught on cam giving some advice to wannabe contestants.

Now we all know he cuts a dashing figure, and that hair is to dye for (!).

But on a hot day in Rocky waiting in the sun, the G subtlely advised some unkempt individuals to have a think about a shower and their personal hygiene....

A fight over the Neighbours

Contractual negotiations over Neighbours continue between the BBC and Fremantle with news today that the broadcaster is ready to walk away from a deal that is on the table.

Last week it was reported that rival broadcaster ITV was offering Fremantle £80,000 an episode. The BBC is said to have upped its offer from £25,000 to £70,000.

But it has also called Fremantle greedy and unprofessional.

One BBC source has gone so far as to say, "one of the reasons the show has the status it does in Australia is that it is shown on the BBC. Let them see what happens if it goes elsewhere."

Ouch.

That's when good Neighbours become good ex-Neighbours?

In addition to ITV, Channel Five is also interested.

One only hopes that if there's more money in the kitty (and that is clear) that more is injected back into production, cast and creatives.

Beautiful one day. Foxy the next.

No surprises to see Kath and Kim shooting on the Sunshine Coast.

The Queensland shoot was tipped off here a few weeks ago after more behind-the-scenes info was revealed in the comedy's move from ABC to Seven.

Having the Seven budget allows the show to exploit more locations, which was a big problem when we saw Da Kath & Kim Code. All those European references and not a patch of foreign soil in sight.

But are reports that this is the first time the show is on the road right? What about that episode where we met Sharon's mum in a Gold Coast hospital? Don't tell me it wasn't really Queensland!

Rosemary retires

I have to make mention of the retirement of a quiet legend, Rosemary Margan, who retires from her media career today.

Rosie has 42 years in TV and radio, dating all the way back to her years at GTV9.

With her velvet tones and classy delivery, she has plugged every product from furs to perfume, most notably on In Melbourne Tonight.

It was during an ad read that Graham Kennedy let fly with his infamous "faaaaark" crow call.

The scene will be relived in the upcoming telemovie The King -with her role played by none other than her actress daughter, Cathy Godbold.

Margan has most recently been a regular at 3AW doing live ad reads during Neil Mitchell's programme.

She retires two weeks short of her 70th birthday.

Thanks to the Herald-Sun for the photo.

Double-edge figures for Biggest Loser

TEN was both a winner and a loser in Thursday's ratings.

The audience figure for The Biggest Loser finale was 1.995m, down from 2.309m in 2006.

But it was the top show of the night and together with TEN's other shows, the network had a whopping 33.2% share to Nine's 23.7% and Seven's 23.5%.

The other interesting result from last night was the audience for Big Brother. It was the show's first head-to-head thirty minute edition at 7pm. Home & Away had 1.158m, Big Brother 1.092m and Temptation 1.050m.

Meanwhile Lost slipped under the 1m figure for the first time.

NB: The rating for TBL pertains to its scheduled air-time. As the show ran over, it had 2.09m between 7.31 and 9.49pm (and a peak of 2.66m.... industry ratings always recognise averages).

Further figures for Thursday are available in this week's ratings.
