The Busan-Gimhae/Kimhae Light Rail Transit Co Ltd (BGL) is a joint venture between POSCO E&C (49 per cent), Hyundai Development Company (49 per cent) and SYSTRA (2 per cent) to Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO) the Busan-Gimhae/Kimhae Light Rail Transit system. The project has an estimated escalated total construction cost of KRW9,738 billion. The fully automated elevated system will be 23.455 km long and have 18 stations and is currently scheduled to open in April 2010. It will link Gimhae Airport with Lines 2 and 3 of the Busan Metro. Capacity will be 176,000 passengers per day. The system will be transferred to local government as soon as construction is completed and will then be operated for a maximum of 30 years.

In February 2006, the Busan Gimhae Light Rail Transit Co Ltd (BGL) held the ground-breaking ceremony for the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit. Rotem will supply the rail vehicles, signalling, electrification and communications systems and stations and maintenance facilities, as a turnkey package. The project was approximately 41.15 per cent completed as at the end of 2007.
