Microsoft Reveals Xbox Controller S
Microsoft's David Hufford gives us the scoop on the brand new Xbox Controller S!
By - Benjamin "BenT" Turner

GameSpy: When will we see it in the stores?

David Hufford: We're shooting for late April, early May.

GameSpy: Will the new pad ever be bundled with the Xbox?

David Hufford: We're not planning on that now. We've seen high satisfaction for the current Xbox Controller that comes with the console, and we're sticking to that plan.

GameSpy: So both controllers will coexist on the market?

David Hufford: That's right!

Evil glow not included.
GameSpy: Are there any plans to release the US controller in Japan?

David Hufford: We haven't announced that yet. We're evaluating that market now as we get off the ground in Japan. We know the Japanese gamers really love the Japanese controller we put in their hands for launch.

GameSpy: Will Xbox Controller S be available in Europe?

David Hufford: We have not crossed that bridge. We'll get back to you when the time is right.

GameSpy: Just to clear up recent rumors... Can you confirm that there are no regional lockouts on any Xbox Controllers?

David Hufford: There is no regional lockout for our WW controllers. Any Xbox controller works with any Xbox system any time.

Ahh, it's looking at you!
GameSpy: How do you think the Xbox Controller S compares to the GameCube and PS2 controllers in terms of usability and functionality?

David Hufford: I think people will find that this controller is super-hot in your hands. It's always hard to say whether people are going to strongly prefer one controller on one console or move to another controller on another console. I think this will fall in line more with what people are used to having from a game controller because of its size, and it'll be interesting... I think it'll be very interesting to see how the market responds to the smaller controller.

GameSpy: Any prophetic words on what's next for Xbox controllers?

Whew.
David Hufford: [Laughs.] Prophetic words? The best is yet to come. Controllers are going to expand out in new ways... obviously voice over time will play a more significant role in the way people control games, and we have a good history at this company of coming out with game controllers and innovating in that area. So I'll just say that we'll be working (and so will our third-party partners) on new, better stuff…
