"Gameshow Marathon" is a spin off the UK version "Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon," which was produced in 2005 for ITV. The show took a look back at classic game shows, such as "Bullseye," "Family Fortune" and "The Price is Right."
CBS' "Game Show Marathon" will be a seven-episode game show tournament featuring celebrity contestants playing classic shows like "The Price Is Right," "Let's Make a Deal," "Beat The Clock," "Press Your Luck," "Card Sharks," "Match Game" and "Family Feud." Ricki Lake will host the series. "You need someone who can really run a show," Stuart Krasnow, the show's executive producer, said. "A comedian's too worried about being funny, and Ricki really has a familiarity with and love for these games. She grew up on them."
The celebrity line-up included Leslie Nielsen, Tim Meadows, Lance Bass (NSYNC), Kathy Najimy, Paige Davis, and Brande Roderick.
Viewers will enjoy the accuracy of the recreations, right down to the set and Lake's wardrobe. Lake has already been studying tapes of the original shows, "channeling her inner Monty Hall and Gene Rayburn," according to Krasnow. She also plans to dress in period garb when appropriate.
The production staff indicates the seriousness with which CBS is taking the subject of game shows. From "The Weakest Link" and "Ricki Lake" comes the show's executive producer, Stuart Krasnow; Ricki Lake has also been named producer; director Brian DiPirro worked on "Card Sharks," "Beat The Geeks" and "Deal Or No Deal;" and writers Ann Slichter and Aaron Solomon penned questions for "The Weakest Link," "Family Feud" and "Whammy! The All New Press Your Luck."
The show aired on CBS premiering May 31, 2006. "Game Show Marathon" is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Granada America.
