CNN's New Electoral College map.
CNN's New Electoral College map.

(CNN) — Two more states have shifted to Barack Obama's column in the new CNN Electoral Map that charts the candidates’ strength leading up to the November election.

"Toss-up" states Minnesota and Wisconsin were re-designated to "Lean-Obama" Friday, giving the presumptive Democratic nominee another 20 electoral votes in CNN's current estimate. The Illinois senator now has 231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the presidency.

CNN made the change after new polling conducted by Quinnipiac University showed that Obama holds double-digit leads over presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in both states. CNN's analysis estimates McCain has 194 electoral votes.

This is only a CNN estimate and is likely to change many more times in the lead up to the election.

The Quinnipiac surveys, released Thursday, showed Obama with a 17-point lead in Minnesota, 54-37 percent, and a 13 point lead in Wisconsin, 52-39 percent.

This is silly , our PRESIDENT should be elected by the PEOPLE….
Via the POPULAR VOTE ….
Whoever has the most VOTES from AMERICANS ………
WINS …
The GOP will try to steal this election like they have the past 2 …

The article says that Obama "has 231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the nomination." Seems like the good folks at CNN think we're still in primary season here.

Heather Peterson   June 27th, 2008 6:20 am ET

I am from Michigan and can tell you I do not know a single person intending on voting for McCain. I realize that I'm not Gallop or Newsweek, but I highly doubt this state is a toss-up.

I wonder how much someone has to be leading by to get that state leaning for them? Wasn't Obama winning another state by 8 or 9?

To all those people that say that polls do not matter in June:
Yes, you're probably right, but right now they're all we have. Until you can find a poll that favors McCain, I suspect that the blogs will be flodded with protests about the early polls.

To those who point at the Gallup poll, which has McCain and Obama tied at 44%:
Yes, they are tied in that poll. But that is not the only poll out there. Have you noticed that in all of the other polls, Obama is leading ? I have not seen a single poll out there that has John McCain ahead of Obama.

Is it not interesting how news media already predicting Obama a clear front runner? Of course our liberal news casters did there best to elect Hillary as well as Al I can do anything Gore and John I might have been able to do it better Kerry.

Wake up America you future is at stake.

Mark Engel   June 27th, 2008 6:41 am ET

I really don't understand CNN's fascination with polls, especially some 4 months out from the election nor do I understand Senator Obama's picture all over the political Section on CNN online.

The only poll of any significance is the one on November 4, 2008: That one will bury Obama!

Are you folks really the new Pravda for Senator Obama?

ANYONE for President EXCEPT OBAMA!

Vdr Esq., District of Columbia   June 27th, 2008 7:04 am ET

George W. Bush has managed America like every business venture he has touched in his life - incompetently. Republican deregulatorion and do-nothing policies have given us a ruined economy, poisonous toys from China, contaminated food, uncontrolled illegal immigration, failing civil air fleets, the mortgage crisis, spoiled vaccination crops and a host of other consequences. Americans are tired of the war 'on terrorism', tired of the war on science, tired of the war on drugs, tired of the war on civil liberties, tired of the war on our environment. Republican policies have failed us dramatically and it will take a generation to recover. Even the media's fake neutrality can't save the Republicans now, they will have to manufacture another terror crisis in order to seriously compete in this next election.

I don't believe it for a minute. Also, why is CNN doing this? We are months away from the election. Keep in mind that all during the primarys people lied to the polsters about voting for Nobama. His numbers were always higher than Hillary and Hillary ended up winning. He is a loser all around.
MCCain 08

E. C., Houston, Texas   June 27th, 2008 7:09 am ET

DOUBTFUL that these numbers are correct when CNN is so out of step with other Polls and so far LEFT. Polls are so easily MANIPULATED, and CNN knows how to get the results desired.

dave   June 27th, 2008 7:10 am ET

Look, this election is not going to be any different then any of the recent elections of the past. Obama is not going to 'change' the minds of conservatives anywhere in the U.S. States that went red in 2000 and 2004 are staying red no matter what the media would like to tell us. Once again, the election is going to be incredibly close and it will be decided in either Pennsylvania or Florida, most likely Florida. I think the Obama people are going to be unpleasantly surprised in November and they still may win, but it won't be by much.

Jerry Dekker   June 27th, 2008 7:14 am ET

I think you mean 39 electoral votes shy of election, not 39 votes shy of the nomination

Pel   June 27th, 2008 7:15 am ET

The American people are seeking a big change in the way our government does business. Most will jump on the Obama Express.
The coming election will again see the hugh defeat of another Az senator for the presidency. Senator McCain will be Goldwaterized by Senator Obama.

Swampy   June 27th, 2008 7:16 am ET

"The Illinois senator now has 231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the nomination."

Uh, don't you mean "the presidency"? You guys should maybe check with "the best political team on the planet" about terminology before you put a story up. They're right upstairs from you…

AB   June 27th, 2008 7:17 am ET

A sign of things to come!! Mccbush needs an active god to have any chance of winning this election. Obama is good for America and will restore America's tarnished image abroad.

Independent and Happy   June 27th, 2008 7:18 am ET

It shows that Obama is gaining momentum. It takes time to build momentum. McCain is a formidable opponent. Obama needs to go after Republican strongholds as well in order to change the electoral map. Even if Obama does not win solidly Republican states, his efforts will help him and his party for future elections. You cannot get voter support unless you first ask for it.

Anonymous   June 27th, 2008 7:19 am ET

Did you mean to say "231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the nomination" or "231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the election"?

Typical White Person   June 27th, 2008 7:20 am ET

Early polls are completely useless, ask John Kerry and Al Gore, plus Minnesota being a "toss up" shows how weak BO is compared to the generic Democrat.

P.S Nice Job by Bush on North Korea, guess he was right all along, if he were a liberal they would give him a Nobel Peace Prize.

Bill Firshein   June 27th, 2008 7:21 am ET

When will you stop with these nauseating phony polls that mean absolutely nothing now.. Are you trying to create an unstoppable image for Obama.. Poling is to reality as 2 dollar gasolene is to reality this year.. The significant polls will come after the conventions and after each party has two candidates…S os stop flooding the airwaves with junk

JIMBO   June 27th, 2008 7:22 am ET

Just who are these people polling ? Theres no way Obama has that kind of lead.. The media glitz towards Obama continues….will it never end ?/. Yes..in November when he LOSES the electoral college !!

Robert   June 27th, 2008 7:28 am ET

The American people realize that it definitely is time for a CHANGE from the mess the Republicans have gotten this country into. Of all the candidates throughout this election process, the best choice for getting the country back on track is Barack Obama.

I'm surprised that Iowa is not leaning Obama yet. He will be changing the electoral map, and it's only June. McCain is going to have a hard time re-claiming toss up states that usually gone red.

My goodness, CNN, we're not even in July yet…

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   June 27th, 2008 7:30 am ET

———this about as laughable as it gets.————-

From the chart I see, it looks like McCain is carrying the country except for about four states.

I predict a washout for McCain. A real landslide. I can't imagine CNN casting credibility on itself by publishing these blatant polls that anyone in high school can see right through

They sort of remind one of Obama's speeches. Nice speech, feeling good, but like cotton candy, no substance. Wake up America. He wants to give our good hard earned tax money to a new cottage industry of Welfare Queens.

kenneth olubusi   June 27th, 2008 7:32 am ET

I am British with an interest in the American election because anything that affects America affects the whole world. I think American should not be decieved by the experience that Maccain is always talking about. Where is his experience when Bush lied about Iraq and start spending billions of dollars and he supported him , where is his experience in all the policy thats has been adopted driving American in the wrong direction now.
New blood, new vision , and everything in the white house has to be new and Obama i think offers that.

Ben   June 27th, 2008 7:32 am ET

I only see two candidates listed for this report. What about the other candidates for President. Bob Barr, former congressman and Libertarian candidate, should get the same press as McCain and Obama. If the general public watched the videos, read his articles, and knew that there ARE other choices, then this race would be tight giving Bob Barr an edge. For too long I have heard people complain that they don't like McCain, so they want to vote for Obama, or they don't trust Obama and they want to vote for McCain. These people, who most likely make up the majority need to be informed of the alternatives. There are other choices. My choice is Bob Barr.

Bob   June 27th, 2008 7:33 am ET

Winning the "nomination"? Don't you mean winning the election?

dave   June 27th, 2008 7:33 am ET

As of last night, I became an Obama supporter, I like the way him and Haillary are bringing the party together. They both kept their promises. I also think that everything that was said about Hillary was not true, she has shown that she will do anything for Obama to get elected and has moved on. Go Obama/Hillary 08. I am very proud of both!!

It's about time those states were added to the lean column for Obama. This election's going to be a joke, not even the crafty (dirty, slimy, and generally abhorrent) Republicans are going to be able to steal this one. And I use the term steal in a literal sense.

scotty   June 27th, 2008 7:35 am ET

Is this the poll they called me on this week in MN when they called me it was around supper and the person asked me what I thought of BO I said I think he has brought race relations back 40yrs the caller then told me I must be one of the raciest and hung up on me. Very RUDE. I must laugh when Iam called a racist as I have many friends of different colors and sexual beliefs. I drive a 71 vw Bus with a peace sign on it and would consider myself pretty librial but His people will keep me away from his vote this year. I just dont see alot of trust in him or I should more say his followers. I never would of beleived the Dem party would become a party based on fear factors like the repubs..

I am glad to hear about the inceasing support for Obama, but this report is idiotic and misleading.

You say "The Illinois senator now has 231 electoral votes - 39 shy of winning the nomination." First, nobody "has" electoral votes from a poll. Second, there is no nomination this round. When the voting is in, the winner is the new president-elect.

- It is so transparently clear that the republican lies are failing.

- Coulter, Limbaugh and the rest of their "Operation Chaos" freaks will be left out in the cold and mocked in history like we mock McCarthy.

- Your Village Idiot GWB and his very sick handler Cheney have destroyed the GOP.

- The beginning of the end for republicans happened when the lunatic right-fringe so-called "fundamentalist evangelical" (non-)christians took over the nut house.

It's over now.

I have never seen so many black media types blinded by color for one of their own, and for someone who really has no business being on this national stage. Obama will not be running against Hillary, so the media will not have the same effect on the general election as it did in the primary, where both white and black journalists sought to sabotage the Clinton campaign. Only the black media will continue their blind following for Barack; the white media will wake up in time to see that this slick talking junior Senator is not presidential material - not by a long shot.

I pray to God that what I think is about to happen won't happen. Desperation makes people do strange things. The GOP won't go down without a fight, and regardless of McCain's pledge not to go dirty, he stated that he can't referee the PACs, which strikes doom in my heart. The Rethugs are about to go slime. They have yet to find a bombshell on Obama. Some people just refuse to believe that Obama might just be a regular guy, a genuinely good person. I know he's no saint, but then, when have we ever had a completely righteous President? We never will. However, I believe that Obama is the best chance we will probably have for at least the next 25 years.

As with making judgments as to the presidential winner before the polls close on the general election day, I do not believe that it is appropriate for any news channel to give opinion as to whether a canidate has secured a state for electoral college purposes. I believe thatv this could affect voters and affect voter turn out. I an a loyal CNN viewer since its inception, however what has happened to reporting the news here and in the world? Opinion is not news nor fact. Opinons are for a talk shows not a news organization with a history of reporting the news worldwide, in award winning fashion. You have lost most of my family as viewers and soon you will loose me too. Please go back to your roots and loose the opinons, the political hacks, the whiners like caferty, who do not report news but whine and cry about their opinon of the news, and report the facts and the news.

I can't wait to see you look stupid when he loses in November. That'll be a big part of the FUN of him losing!

PUMA

Knoxville, Operation: NObama   June 27th, 2008 8:28 am ET

Wow, CNN. So, based on new polling four months before the general election, you're "making the change," calling Minnesota and Wisconsin for Obama and putting them in the "Obama column"?
The media already helped to turn this historic primary into a fiasco. And now, with statements like these, you guys are heading for a fiasco worse than that in 2000, when Florida was called for Gore based on exit polling BEFORE THE POLLS EVEN CLOSED. Didn't you change your policies regarding calling elections based on polls after that?
Obama's problem is Plouffe's delusional hope that Obama Almighty's cult members can magically turn their rapid hate and unprincipled positions into the electoral votes he'll need to win in November.
Dave, the alchemy necessary just to convince the Chosen One's cult followers that he can reach 270 without Ohio and Florida by sweeping victories throughout ALL the other so-called "new map" swing states is staggering, to say nothing of the odds of actually achieving electoral victory in November according to your projections, which is infinitely unlikely.
Yeah, I guess BO can…
But, tell the truth, Dave.
He probably won't.

LJ in Cypress   June 27th, 2008 8:32 am ET

This is no longer a nomination contest anymore CNN. That ended 3 weeks ago.

Proofer   June 27th, 2008 8:36 am ET

Er, that's "win the election," not the nomination.

Joe   June 27th, 2008 8:37 am ET

YES!!!! And he has good teeth! It's time to get someone in office who will actually do something besides stare into the camera and stumble through what's on the teleprompter! People are tired of re-electing these old farts to Washington only to watch them sit on their butts and collect our tax dollars and live the good life. Obama has stuck with the same message from the beginning to the end; he hasn't conveniently switched or been converted every other week like someone we know. His initials are John McCain! LOL

McCain, get back on your horse and high-tail it out of here…the desert awaits you!

Obama-Junkie, IL   June 27th, 2008 8:38 am ET

As much as I strongly support Obama, this exercise in electoral map prediction by the news media before any actual voting is done is counter-productive to the voting process.

At this point in the campaign 4 months out from the general election, both Obama and McCain have zero electoral votes!

Joe Idaho   June 27th, 2008 8:39 am ET

I thought that the election was in November. He doesn't have any votes until then….

Jonathan   June 27th, 2008 8:39 am ET

Winning the nomination? Err.. I think you mean winning the presidency, right? Except that that is decided by the actual vote in November, not by CNN's projections, unless someone changed the constitution when I wasn't looking. CNN sometimes gives the impression of forgetting this. I'm not surprised Obama's looking good now, I just hope he can sustain the lead.

Althogh it is correct that June polls are fairly meaningless, to say they mean nothing is just wrong. They mean Obama has a head start. I am positive that McCain would prefer the polls to be flipped. That being said, anything can happen between now and November to reverse Obama's advantage.

A Free Thinker   June 27th, 2008 8:54 am ET

This article is about as phony as it gets. Laughable. I looked at the diagram and see it awash with states safe for McCain. Looks like just four states are safe for Obumbling.

Flash — (CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, each donated $2,300 Thursday to the campaign of his former opponent, Sen. Hillary Clinton, which is millions of dollars in debt.

Nice that Obama thinks enough of Hillary to donate to her campaign. I'll bet she didn't donate to his as his is a campaign of broken promises, misguided policies and a return to Jimmy Carter and the welfare queens. Do we really want that?

I don't think so, so let us unite and wake up to a brighter tomorrow and elect John McCain.

Bob   June 27th, 2008 8:55 am ET

If the economy gets worse as expected, it is only going to make it tougher to McCain.

Seam, Florida   June 27th, 2008 8:57 am ET

Look, I am a die-hard Obama supporter, but I would never get overly excited about these stupid polls so early in the game. CNN reports the Illinois senator now has 231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the nomination. CNN acts like this is election night in November. How ridiculous!

quent97   June 27th, 2008 8:58 am ET

Until Barack and John start having debates mono y mono these polls do not mean much. Wait until it gets closer to November (say September) then watch how the polls roll. However, as another poster said this does show whose picking up the momentum and that could be helpful when we do get closer to November.

#2: It is June — a lot can change, so don't get too excited.

#3: The MSM will do anything to get Obama elected, including making statements like this and headlines like this that declare him the "unstoppable" winner already. But then, Hillary was crowned the winner before the primarys really got started … and we know how that turned out.

If he does, it isn't just his lousy economic plan that will do us in. It will be all the sleeper cells of terrorists already in this country, just waiting for the call to act. Trust me people, don't be fooled by this false prophet of a man. He will certainly bring this nation down to it knees in ways Jimmy Carter only came close to doing.

SaneTexan   June 27th, 2008 9:03 am ET

Two terrible choices again this election. This is just unacceptable.
People need to write in their choice on the ballots in November and send a strong message to both parties. It is way past time for a true third party. The Democrats and Republicans are truely out of touch with the American public. PS: McCain is not trustworthy…Obama is not either and he is NOT the answer!

OBAMA the ANTICHRIST   June 27th, 2008 9:04 am ET

someone asks "Why is CNN doing this?" Because Americans are fascinated with polls and prefer to vote for a winner then the RIGHT choice. OBAMA will take this country in the WRONG direction - backwards: doubling taxes, taxing capital gains on all of our 401K's, weaken our military, making deals with countries that hate us (Iran, Venezuela, Cuba…..), giving constitutional rights to terrorists, a socialist healthcare system where we have to wait years for an appt to see a physician and all illegal aliens will be given health coverage which we will have to pay for. We will turn into the new THIRD WORLD COUNTRY and lose any influence we have in the world. People don't respect those they can walk over!!!

It seems BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is getting votes from not only the dedicated liberals, but also those that just steam with hatred for BUSH. You have to admit, with all that GWB was dealt during his terms he handled them all very well. If Owl Gore had been in office during 9/11 I wonder if we would have done anything.

WAKE UP AMERICA! You are about to dig yourself into a 6 foot hole that will take years to get out of……if ever.

I live in MN and it's never been a toss up state. This state is democratic and people take pride in that here. Either way it makes absolutely no difference now. CNN is ready to declare the winner as soon as someone reaches 270 in their polls. "Obama only needs 39 more"- as far as I know he needs 270 since we haven't started voting yet. Stupid!

I hope that all logical people will want to change the mess that our country is in. Not only is the war in Iraq costing our valuable young Americans their lives, it is looting our economy. How can we have money for the needed health care for our country, social security, and other important needs that we the tax payers are paying for? This war needs to end ASAP. The idea is already being tossed around about making the baby boomer work longer to generate more taxes. Wake up America! Will you cut off your left hand to spite the right one by voting for McCain and the continuation of this war? Obama will get our military home!!!

Easy Rider   June 27th, 2008 9:12 am ET

Perhaps we can get some real change once Obama's in office and eliminate this electoral college nonsense. Institute the popular vote for determining who wins, not some flip-flop politicians whose votes might be "bought". I am sure it happens.

Just curious how anyone says, "Obama, we don't trust you" or "Hillary, we don't trust you". Do you not realize that Obama/Hillary/McCain cannot be trusted? They are politicians!

I don't understand the trust comments because none of them can be. They tell you whatever the advisors say the majority of voters are wanting. Better dressed car salesmen.

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   June 27th, 2008 9:14 am ET

Add in Iowa, New Mexico and Colorado, there's another 21 and he needs just 10 electoral votes.
Michigan or Ohio does it. So now it's clear why he said he doesn't need Florida and/or Ohio.
But guess what? He's fighting hard for those states as well.

Course, things could change for Senator McCain.

But, I of course, am hoping he wins 295+ to whatever McCain gets.
See you in January 2009 President Elect Obama.

Not John-Joe   June 27th, 2008 9:14 am ET

Sorry CNN-your info is old and stale.

New Mexico leans Obama, or is at least a toss up according to every poll out. Also, new polls from Indiana indicate that it is in play as well. With Mitch McConell's poor standing in KY, and a Dem leading in another batch of Mississippi polls-you should try to keep up to date…

Andy   June 27th, 2008 9:14 am ET

""Toss-up" states Minnesota and Wisconsin were re-designated to "Lean-Obama" Friday, giving the presumptive Democratic nominee another 20 electoral votes in CNN's current estimate. The Illinois senator now has 231 electoral votes — 39 shy of winning the nomination."

Well not exactly. The Illinois Senator has NO ELECTORAL VOTES. The election hasn't happened yet. This isn't Zimbabwe. Christie Whittman said it best. "The only poll that counts is the one on election day."

George   June 27th, 2008 9:15 am ET

McCain voted with Bush 100% of the time in 2008.

He wants to give YOU a smaller tax cut than Obama does, AND he wants to give ExxonMobil $1.2 billions in tax giveaways.

He voted FOR letting Halliburton do business with Iran, and his campaign chairman Charlie Black is a lobbyist who worked for Chinese companies doing business in Iran.

He flip flopped on taxes, immigration, torture, social security, offshore drilling, Hagee, Falwell, Wyly, Kissinger, guns, Roe Vs Wade, Law of the Sea, Lobbying reform, windfall tax, illegal wiretapping, litmus test, retroactive immunity, normalizing cuba relations, talking with Syria and with Hamas, ethanol, being a baptist, earmarks, subprime crysis, DREAM act, gay marriage, etc.

Of course he'll lose the election. He's worse than Bush.

KateyGreen   June 27th, 2008 9:15 am ET

The states will flip and flop until November. The winning candidate will catch them on the flip, instead of the flop.

Obama is the best to lead our country into the future. McCain looked like a sick puppy when interviewed about North Korea, one of the axis of evil as GWB called them, is now coming off the terrorist list due to diplomacy which Obama has always said America must use and it works. McCain struggled for words to avoid agreeing with the outcome that diplomacy works because his only political platform is the fear factor and he's the best for national security. I hope people that support McCain get the real picture of the real picture of what the future will be with McCain, war, war, lies and no diplomacy. McCain will destroy our country further. Vote Obama.

Oh and the election is in November

Tony   June 27th, 2008 9:20 am ET

the difference in this election is that the elderly won't be voting in disproportionate numbers to the rest of the demographics. And, while these polls don't mean too much yet, looking at these comments makes it clear that most people have their minds made up already. If the democrats show up in November in the same record numbers they had during the primary, it's not even going to be close.

bitter_in_pa   June 27th, 2008 9:25 am ET

The difference between a poll and election is that the election requires people to get off their fat behinds and actually go to the voting booth and the polls do not … so these numbers are scewed and unreliable.

"Heather Peterson" - You're right. YOU ARE NOT THE GALLUP POLL. Also, when was the last time MEEECHIGAN voted for a Republican president? It's okay though. Ohio will make sure another Republican gets into the White House.

check urself   June 27th, 2008 9:32 am ET

ya baby! let's get thisparty started it should be obvious to the clinton supporters the best man won and will win

kamenwati   June 27th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Get ready for President Obama to take the oath of office in January and finally bring and end to our long national nightmare under Republican mis-rule and mis-leadership.

Rumpusgoopus   June 27th, 2008 9:34 am ET

It's about time, CNN.

brox190   June 27th, 2008 9:34 am ET

It seems many things going Obama's way and he is getting all the press. Do we want a return to higher taxes? Obama has stated we need to return to the rates we had before the Bush tax cuts. I hope everyone will take time to examine the true implications of the policies set forth by a person with no tangible legislative history and see through all of the demonizing of Bush's policies. I don't believe that everything Bush did was a disaster and the things going on economicaly are not his doing. Don't rush to annoint Obama President until McCain has truely laid his plan out.

Pumas aren't Democrats, So Stop Using OUR Good Name   June 27th, 2008 9:34 am ET

Its just a poll people and its showing two things; People are willing to give change a real look this year and Secondly, its going to be close. All during the primaries all Clinton said was "he's unelectable, he can't win" But its showing that even though it was a tight race, he is still doing pretty well. A poll is end all be all but it shows how it may trend.

You PUMA/ "Clinton or McCain" people (who are not the same as Clinton supporters or Democrats) used to LOVE polls… until she wasn't doing well in them. Just like you had no problem with caucuses until after Iowa… then they were undemocratic (although no one complained about them when Bill ran). And, just like she had no problem with MI & FL not counting… until she was losing. Seems like if its not good for you, its not important. Just your candidate didn't win so now its voting against your interests. Seems like your "bitter".

Nobody Asked Larry But...   June 27th, 2008 9:35 am ET

Keep in mind that when all else fails, the right wing nuts will turn to their ace in the hole - fear. They will raise the threat of a terrorist attack, or if necessary, create one that will send many voters to the man they feel will protect them in times of peril - McCain.

Eric   June 27th, 2008 9:36 am ET

This is far from over. Just like the Bush/Cheney "shock and awe" campaign in Iraq wait until the McCain/conservative right "smear and fear" campaign is unleashed in full force by the Republicans against Obama. This will influence a lot of voters who fall back voting based on negativity and not hope and positive values.

JJ Jones   June 27th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Nice job by some to compare Obama 08 to Dukakis 88. If you don't realize the different between the years, they are obvious. Dukakis was trying to defeat a vice president of a popular president while Obama is trying to defeat a senator who is in lock step an unpopular president.

Gary in Hamburg   June 27th, 2008 9:37 am ET

I am in Germany and all I can say is that the International Community is extremely eager to work with a President who is willing to resolve complex issues multilaterally, they are tired of being dictated to by the Bush Administration. Obamas is not the solution, his willingness to engage is.

We live an a world of global problems and global opportunities that require global consensus. The oxymoron that your opponents 'hate freedom' has to stop. What we all hate hypocrisy.

Lisa in GA.   June 27th, 2008 9:37 am ET

By the time Nov gets here Obama will have a 20pt lead in just about every state if the GOP doesn't show they are for the American people instead of themselves……

Mike, Midland, Texas   June 27th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Fellow Obama supporters, don't get to comfortable. We're only finishing the first lap of a mile long run, so there is a chance that we could still lose. I've seen it before, people get confortable with a big lead then blow it in the end. Just always remember it's not whether you lead in the beginning or middle of the race, the only thing that matters is who crosses the finish line first.

Claire   June 27th, 2008 9:38 am ET

I'm really offended that CNN has allowed so many anti-Obama posts on this site, all of which have vaguely racist undertones.

It's 2008, people!!!

Time to stop with the distractions. The American people will not fall for racist-driven pandering this time!!!

OBAMA 08

Alex   June 27th, 2008 9:38 am ET

In 12 of the 16 last presidential elections the front runner in June polls won the election. The other four had to do with very unpopular presidents, which in this election benefits Obama even more.

Richard   June 27th, 2008 9:38 am ET

"39 short of winning the election"!

BJG   June 27th, 2008 9:39 am ET

I'm lovin' it!

Annette, Washington, DC   June 27th, 2008 9:39 am ET

This is why Obama ran a great primary, he proved that the swing states can also be won in the GE.. The Repubs are very vulnerable and the swing states are up for grabs. People are tired, hurt, unemployed, no health care, a insane, useless war, gas prices absolutely off the roof, shall go on….it's no wonder.

mike esq.   June 27th, 2008 9:39 am ET

McCant '08 = Economy further down the drain…hey, I never enjoyed being employed anyway!!

Adam   June 27th, 2008 9:40 am ET

The Liberal Media just doesn't get it!

Nancy   June 27th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Angel,

I agree, our president should be elcted by the people. The GOP did steal the last two elections.

If you follow that train of theougt OBAMA SHOULD NOT BE THE NOMINEE. he DID NOT win the popular vote in the primaries.

ALECO1 -----NOKOMIS,FL   June 27th, 2008 9:41 am ET

IF YOU LIKE THE STOCK MARKET DROP, IF YOU LIKE THE NATIONAL DEBT, IF YOU LIKE THE WAR, IF YOU LIKE THE PRICE OF GAS, IF YOU LIKE THE UNEMPLOYMENT—THEN BY ALL MEANS VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN–HE'S YOUR MAN, BECAUSE YOU WILL GET MORE OF THE SAME.
ME—I'M GOING TO VOTE FOR OBAMA.

Rick FL   June 27th, 2008 9:41 am ET

Dear "Typical"
It's interesting that you mentioned the North Korea diplomacy progress, since that seemed to be the exact thing Bush tried to chastise Obama for last month. I guess Obama's Reagan-style diplomatic approach was correct after all. In fact, it kind of made Bush look somewhat hypocritically "appeasing" I believe were his choice of words.

Anyway, it's great to see Obama doing well. Let's keep the momentum going and take back our country for all Americans.

Obama '08

Holiday   June 27th, 2008 9:41 am ET

actually McCain really upsets conservatives because he's pretty liberal for a Republican

Scott, NY NY   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Hear that sound? It's the Obama tsunami and it's growing.

Becky   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Definitely with Obama and Hillary playing nice, this can only turn out well. "With our powers combined, I am Captain Planet!" … Captain Planet (the 80's or 90's cartoon) would be a great campaign slogan…lol

DJ in TX   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Even though I'm an Obama supporter, CNN, please choose your words better. Stating that he only needs 39 more electoral votes………this is only June and even though everything is in place for a Democratic win, the republicans are not going to just lay down.

This is good news, but it is still early. I'm cautiously optimistic.

GB   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

CNN is going to poll us to pieces, but no one asked me anything.

judas_priest   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

I notice that you still have New Mexico projected as leaning for McCain. For the last two months polling has been running for Obama at about a 5% margin on average. Even some strongly Republican wed sites are shoing as leaning toward Obama? What does it take for your "experts" to keep up to date?

Eve   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Although I am an Obama supporter, we need to very cautious about all of these early polls, it is just for communication purposes. You have to wonder who are these people polling, what demographics? I have never had anyone to call me, never.

Lucas, Nashville TN   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Welcome to the purple nation, folks!

CE   June 27th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Since the Democratic Party hand-picked the nominee, maybe we should all just let CNN use their experience and wisdom to pick the President — NOT!

These news agencies are still trying to influence the election. We, the people, cannot let that happen. Obama does not represent the majority of this country and it is our job, the people of this country, to make our voices heard.

November will be perfect timing to show the Democratic Party and the news agencies that we, the people, still choose our President.

Democrats for McCain!

B   June 27th, 2008 9:44 am ET

To Larry of Boston…

You do know that Black media, or even Black voters, are not the reason he won the nomination, right? But we'll go ahead and add this to the list of things that are the fault of Black people. lol

TEXAN   June 27th, 2008 9:44 am ET

What a way to go !!! He will be our next President. He is exactly what our countyr needs to get it back on the RIGHT track. GO OBAMA !!!!!

Bridgette-PA   June 27th, 2008 9:46 am ET

This is the best birthday gift to me today! Keep them comin'. I Love it!

OBAMA / SEBELIUS -08!

Beck   June 27th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Seems like I remember the shocked look on a woman's face when she was interviewed on the national news, saying " I don't know anyone who voted for Reagan!" So maybe she needed to widen her circle of friends. Or her horizons. Or her closed little liberal mind.

PT   June 27th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Jealousy, envy, loss of control, it really shows many would like to be on Obama’s side but can’t so they try to pull him down instead. Most typical of men to do this.

Herman in LA   June 27th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Hey CNN is McCain in the media?

Everything is about Barack hahahah lol what's McCain doing these days?

Barack the vote…

Jake   June 27th, 2008 9:47 am ET

Everytime I read these comments on CNN, it makes me sick to think people actually live in some mental state of idiocy.

Contrary to what the liberal media will force down your throat, polls mean as much to this election as Al Gore means to global warming. Doesn't mean a thing. It has been proven over and over again that people will say one thing and vote another. Obama never won as big as projected. Look it up.

Dee   June 27th, 2008 9:48 am ET

Ha! Ha! Seems like the McCain supporters are getting a little nervous. They scoff at the polls where OBAMA is ahead and "cling" to one that has them "tied". OBAMA will win in November! Have you listened to one of McCain's speeches or town hall meetings? What a joke. Come on, Let's say it together–"President Obama"!!

Kat, Huntington, West Virginia   June 27th, 2008 9:48 am ET

wow–the arrogance of you obama folks never ceases to amaze me. It is your narrow-minded, condescending attitude that is going to keep a lot of HIllary supporters out of your camp. And trust me you need us, even Obama is begging now. When will you realize that this is not a high school football game. This is important and if Obama wants to win all of you need to act like grown-ups and start reaching out to people who have not agreed with you rather than contstantly insulting them. Your guy also needs to pick the only turly qualified person for VP (Hillary) otherwise we will have another republican in the white house. Grow up kids, we've seen these nice speeches before–need a little substance too. So, stop crowing and get to work trying to mend some fences otherwise it is going to be another long 4 years!

Rob Pembroke Pines, FL   June 27th, 2008 9:49 am ET

OMG! were going to have to see a new map every week on this till the election. When is enough enough bring back the old days please!

BK   June 27th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Larry of Boston:
I agree with you.

scott   June 27th, 2008 9:50 am ET

I wonder what it takes to become a state that is strong for Obama. To have a 13 and 17 pt lead in a state, as is the case in WI and MN, and only be considered "leaning" for Obama is conservative at best. In addition to that, there has only been one poll recently that suggests the election is close nationally. In the last few weeks several polls have shown Obama is pulling ahead. I agree it is too early for the Obama team to start measuring the White House drapes, but I would much rather be sitting in his position then McCain's.

McCain 2008   June 27th, 2008 9:50 am ET

McCain is going to beat Obama like a drum in November…..

No matter what ridiculous statements CNN makes before the election.
