MCCLEARY–Motorists who travel westbound SR 8 near McCleary should plan ahead for delays as work to clean up after a tanker fire on Saturday continues.
SR 8 was closed in both directions early Saturday morning when a tanker truck carrying 10,000 gallons of fuel caught fire due to a collision. All lanes but the left, westbound lane reopened to traffic by 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The left, westbound lane will continue to be closed so contractors can clean up remaining fuel from the soil and culvert that runs beneath the roadway. The contractor has been working since Saturday and will continue 24-hour-a-day operations until all fuel is removed.
WSDOT expects the lane to reopen by Wednesday.
Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
