VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City authorities have permitted HCM City Television (HTV) to launch the 2nd Vietnam Idol in late August 2008.

The voice-testing round will begin in late August. The semifinals and finals will take place from late November 2008 to early January 2009, with 10 shows.

HTV on May 28 announced that the second Vietnam Idol competition would take place from June to December, starting with the qualifier round on June 25 in Can Tho. But in early June, HCM City authorities asked HTV to postpone the contest. The reason was that there are many similar contests on HTV from now to the year’s end and the event is not suitable in the country’s current social and economic situation.

Organisers are reconsidering the competition’s structure. They plan to shorten some parts, but maintain two hosts, Thanh Thao and Sy Luan, and the jury – with singer Siu Black, song writer Ho Hoai Anh and saxophone player Tran Manh Tuan.
