Dead or Alive 4 (FEMALE)

Opening up the night’s matches, STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK’s Miss, as La Mariposa, battled with LONDON MINT’s Strobe, as Ayane, on Gambler’s Paradise. Both players entered the game looking to redeem themselves after each one had fallen 5-0 in their Regional Finals. Strobe began playing Ayane accordingly, spinning like a top, allowing her to win two quick rounds, the second of which culminated with a hit and run from a red sports car. After three straight rounds from Strobe, Miss found her first round win of the event, making the score 3-1. The two ladies split rounds, setting the score at 4-2, with Strobe looking to close on her game point. Strobe finally closed it off with a 5-2 win on the scoreboard after a low kick counter.

FIFA 08

Looking for redemption of his own after scoring a goal on himself the night before, ChrisyB (as France) faced off against Istvan (as Brazil). ChrisyB put himself on the board early after crossing from a corner kick for a header at the 2:16 mark, making the score 1-0. ChrisyB and Istvan each had a couple of decent plays, but the half ended with the 1-0 lead for ChrisyB. At the beginning of the second half, ChrisyB blew an opportunity to score on what was basically an open goal. It would have been an embarrassing move if ChrisyB didn’t follow it up with a goal at the 2:40 mark, moving his lead to 2-0. ChrisyB was nearly able to pick up a third goal seconds before the end of the game, crossing the ball in front of the net, setting up for a header that somehow bounced off of the crossbar. Regardless, ChrisyB still escaped with a 2-0 win on the scoreboard.

Counter-Strike Source

LONDON MINT and STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK went to war with each other on the new Counter-Strike Source map in the CGS, de_tuscan. The MAGNETIK, on defense as Counter-Terrorist, defended a split into the B bomb site, with FERUS fragging his way towards the defuse. The MINT, not a team to be discouraged, took the bomb right back into the B site, planting, and fragging out for the win. The MINT picked up a second round in A, before taking it back to B. STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK managed to dominate that round, with Red coming in from behind on a brilliant flank. The MINT slammed themselves against the brick wall called the B bomb site two more times before taking it through sewers into A, which proved effective. They then bounced between each site again, winning both rounds, ending the first half with a 5-4 lead.

Starting off the second half, the MAGNETIK took a page out of the MINT playbook, drilling themselves into the B bomb site with a bit of success. On the following round, the MINT was prepared for it, defending the B site easily, but the third round didn’t bode as well for the MINT. STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK then split from the middle into A, edging the MINT out in a 2v1. The MINT seemed unable to retake the momentum, allowing the MAGNETIK to walk all over them. Finally, after a sloppy split towards A was thwarted, the MINT found themselves back in the match. The MINT then pushed from A, catching a single MAGNETIK player before falling back into the site, ultimately, it played out in the MINT’s favor as they were able to make an early call to their teammates. On the eighth round of the half, LONDON MINT decimated a rush by the MAGNETIK, setting themselves up for match point. The MAGNETIK then decided to split it back to B, crushing the MINT before they could even plant the bomb, bringing it into the pistol overtime round. The MINT took the overtime round easily however, storming into the A bomb site when the MAGNETIK had shifted towards the B side of the map. The match ended in LONDON MINT’s favor, 10-9.

Dead or Alive 4 (MALE)

For the Dead or Alive Male players, the trash-talking Paddaman, playing as Ayane, battled SkatanMilla, playing as Kokoro, on Seaside Market. Paddaman was able to take the first round rather easily, before being completely worked by SkatanMilla’s throws repeatedly. The two began trading rounds, literally going back and forth, toe to toe, round for round. While Paddaman seemed to have no answer for SkatanMilla’s catch grabs, SkatanMilla struggled against Paddaman’s juggle strings. SkatanMilla finally placed himself into game point position, 4-3, but Paddaman battled back, winning 5-4, poising LONDON MINT for a complete sweep of the STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK, and locking the MINT in for a chance at the World Final wild card seeding.

FORZA Motorsport 2

For the second time in two straight matches, MadneSS and iBrYce found themselves in a nearly winless race. The racers had fun with it, playing an extremely physical and aggressive match that had literally begun with a vicious wall pin. Stune and MadneSS, in the back of the pack, played a bit of bumper cars, while iBrYce and NT 101 traded heavy hits at the front. By the end of the race, the fans weren’t sure if they were watching FORZA or Destruction Derby, but NT 101 had taken first, with iBrYce in second, Stune in third, and MadneSS in fourth.

Dead or Alive 4 (MALE)

Kicking off the BIRMINGHAM SALVO and BERLIN ALLIANZ match, was Messy taking on THE TACTICAL, in yet another Hayabusa mirror match, on Crash Club. Each player traded rounds, with THE TACTICAL taking the first, then the third. In the fourth round, THE TACTICAL made full use of the ground game, stealing the round as Messy took a breather on the floor. Messy ran into a bit of trouble when his play and charge cord disconnected from the Xbox 360, but it didn’t look to cost them the round as a penalty. He did, however, go on the lose the following two rounds, ending the match 5-2 in THE TACTICAL’s favor.

FIFA 08

Next up, Manyna, hot off of a miraculous win the night before, faced off against Bazza, as Brazil and England respectively. Manyna, not looking to live down his momentum from the STOCKHOLM MAGNETIK’s match, scored the first goal 0:29 seconds into the game. Manyna continued to press on Bazza, stopping just shy of changing his address to Bazza’s offensive zone, before absolutely thundering in a shot past the keeper in a 2-on-1 play, making it 2-0 heading into the halftime. The second half featured a few close shots, but for the most part, it continued to be Manyna’s game, regardless of the fact that no goals were scored. The match ended with Manyna posting a 2-0 on the scoreboard.

Counter-Strike Source

For the Counter-Strike Source match, BERLIN ALLIANZ looked to put up a respectable score against BIRMINGHAM SALVO, who had recently defeated LONDON MINT 14-4. The SALVO, on offense as Terrorist, steam rolled through the first few rounds, finally losing momentum towards the end of the half. Still, the SALVO was finding success on just about every spot on the map. Finally, BERLIN ALLIANZ was able to get a handle on the map, ending the first half with a respectable score of 5-4 in the SALVO’s favor.

The first round second half didn’t look much different than the first half, with BIRMINGHAM SALVO stepping all over BERLIN ALLIANZ. The ALLIANZ were able to pick up a round, but the SALVO just continued rolling through them. Each round, it seemed like a different BIRMINGHAM SALVO star would be highlighted, between Rattlesnk’s AWP or Wilzoo’s clutch rifles, it was impossible not to be impressed with the SALVO’s play. When the SALVO had won the regulation match, the score read 10-5, beginning the race for the remaining three rounds to enable the Dead or Alive Female and Forza Racers some sort of a lead. After a few more fairly one-sided rounds, the punishment finally ended for the ALLIANZ, with a 12-6 score in BIRMINGHAM SALVO’s favor.

Dead or Alive 4 (FEMALE)

The Dead or Alive Female match feature two ladies hot off of 5-0 wins, Liefje as Kokoro and Sarah Lou as Kasumi, on Kyoto in Bloom. Sarah Lou had a strong opening round, but Liefje followed it up with a one-sided reply of her own. The two ladies then played a close round, which culminated with a low kick counter that doubled as a launcher for Sarah Lou, juggling Liefje to take the match and a 2-1 lead. Two quick rounds later, Sarah Lou was sitting at a 4-1 match point, but had trouble closing the match, as Liefje picked up her second and third rounds after Sarah Lou failed to escape a few wake up kicks in the water. The final round stayed above the water however, with Sarah Lou finally stepping up and closing it off, 5-3 for the SALVO.

FORZA Motorsport 2

The last match of the night, a final deciding FORZA race, put the ALLIANZ in a decent position to impress their General Manager. A 6-1 would be a guaranteed win, with a 5-2 leading to a tie and overtime. It didn’t start very well for BERLIN ALLIANZ however, with DaveySkills pulling out in front. While FinPro was in second, Yggdrasil battled Picaso back and forth for third place. DaveySkills took a big hit from FinPro, and was able to hold him off, until FinPro finally tapped him into the wall, taking first. At this point, all Yggdrasil had to do was pick up third place to keep the match alive. Picaso and Yggdrasil continued to jockey for third place position, until Picaso took a wide turn just before the finish line, allowing the ALLIANZ to pull off the most amazing finish we’ve seen in FORZA yet, sending the match into overtime.

Heading into the single lap overtime round, BERLIN ALLIANZ seemed to be the clear favorite of the crowd, with even the fans on the BIRMINGHAM SALVO side chanting “Lets go Berlin, Lets go!”. Again, Daveyskills sped out ahead of the pack in first place, with FinPro in second, Picaso in third, and Yggdrasil in fourth. A brutal hit on FinPro sent him to the back of the pack, with Yggdrasil in second. Still, DaveySkills’ lead was untouchable in the single lap, and BIRMINGHAM SALVO moved on to win the overall match 22-21.
