FAQ


  1. What is the LESO Program?  The Law Enforcement Support Organization (LESO) is responsible for transferring excess Department of Defense property to state and local law enforcement agencies.  The LESO 1033 Program allows qualifying agencies to receive this property at little or no cost to the agencies.

  2. Who can Participate?  To be considered for entry, an agency must have the primary function of enforcing applicable federal and state laws.  The agency's officers must also have the power of arrest and apprehension.  Program support is focused on the law enforcement officer on the street.  The primary emphasis of the program is on counter-drug and counter terrorism missions.

  3. Will tracked vehicles will destroy our roads?  Each track link has a replaceable rubber pad, that if properly maintained, will protect the roads surface.

  4. Is tracked vehicle maintenance too high?  The yearly cost is less than that of a Crown Victoria, according to Wood County, Ohio and Tuscaloosa County, Alabama sheriffs' offices.

  5. Will tracked vehicles will cause our agency to appear militant?  Although these vehicles were initially developed for the military, they can now fulfill other roles in Homeland Defense applications including Search and Rescue, Border Patrol, Medical Triage, Counter-drug, Information Command Post, and HAZMAT Handling.
