 Diablo III Rob Pardo Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:30 PM
Category: Role Playing

There's a Diablo III Rob Pardo Interview over on 1UP and here is a snip:
We've been working on it for quite a long time. We actually started the game at Blizzard North before we closed the studio down and brought it down south. When it came down to Irvine, we did kind of a big reboot on the project. How long has that been, maybe about three years now?
Go forth and read the rest of that Diablo III Rob Pardo Interview.

 Blizzard's Secret Fourth Game
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:21 PM
Category: Developer

According to Shack News, Blizzard has confirmed that there is a fourth game in the works, which will be a MMO.
Fans have long speculated that Blizzard may follow its ultra-successful World of Warcraft with a World of StarCraft MMO. Others believe that the project could be a new franchise.
I didn't see anybody mention this, but what about a possible World of Warcraft II?

Category: Role Playing

Over on Gameplayer they put up (At least) 101 facts about Fallout 3 after spending three hours with the game and executive producer Pete Hines.
Fallout veterans will have plenty to smile about inside The Vault, with a lot of props taking their queues from those in the original. Chatting with Pete Hines after the demo he informed us that Bethesda own Fallout completely: so not just the brand name but everything, which has surely facilitated their ability to get these elements just right.
Check out that (At least) 101 facts about Fallout 3 article, which is eight pages of information.

Guild Wars 2 FAQ & Beta Delayed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:19 AM
Category: Massively Multiplayer

The official word on the Guild Wars site is that the Guild Wars 2 Beta is delayed and beta testing will not see the light of day in 2008. ArenaNet put up this Guild Wars 2 FAQ and here is a snip.
Although we publically alpha- and beta-tested the original Guild Wars while it was still in early development, with Guild Wars 2 we will commence beta testing closer to the game's release. With that in mind, we will not start beta testing in 2008 as we had originally planned. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations of its quality. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it.

 ZOMG! Diablo III Is Real!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:05 AM
Category: Role Playing

First thing I noticed this morning is the fact that FreeLanZer posted on our Newdoom Forums that the Diablo III site has gone live.
Diablo III is being developed as the definitive action role-playing game, and a true continuation of the Diablo series. Players will create a hero from one of five distinct classes, such as barbarian or witch doctor, each equipped with an array of spells and abilities. As these heroes adventure through rich and varied settings, unraveling an epic storyline and engaging in combat with hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, they'll grow in experience and ability and acquire items of incredible power.

The game takes place on Sanctuary, a world of dark fantasy. Unbeknownst to most of its inhabitants, Sanctuary was saved some twenty years ago from the demonic forces of the underworld by a few brave and powerful heroes. Most of those warriors who directly faced Hell's armies -- and were fortunate enough to survive -- went mad from their experiences. And most of the others have buried their haunted memories and pushed the horrors from their thoughts. In Diablo III, players will return to Sanctuary to confront evil in its many forms once again.
Hit the Diablo III site for more info, including wallpapers, screenshots, trailers and info about the game world, classes and stuff.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:38 AM
Category: First Person

I spotted on Actiontrip that they think Half-Life 2: Episode 3 might be revealed at E3 this year.
Valve did reveal their plans for making Ep. 3, although we didn't get any info on the subject for a long time now. If this report is accurate, we could be learning more about Ep. 3 a lot sooner than expected.

 Spore Creature Creator Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:03 PM
Category: Simulation

Over on Eurogamer they posted up a review of the Spore Creature Creator.
There are limitations with the tools, despite the flexibility. For a start, the creatures you create basically have to be symmetrical. So while you can have one eye at the front, you couldn't actually have one, alone, on the right. The animation is a second point - while the ability of it to work out how to move with a horrific mass of legs attached to the side is impressive, there are some even simpler formations that lead to something that moves while twitching.
That is all on Eurogamer.

 Tomb Raider: Underworld Preview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:41 AM
Category: Action

If you visit 1UP you can view this new Tomb Raider Underworld Preview where they listed ten things we should know about the new game.
One of the developers' design goals for Underworld is to make it less segmented than previous Tomb Raider games -- instead of going from an action scene to a puzzle scene to a minigame scene, players should be doing these things in a more connected way and with more options on how to approach them.
