Samuel Ward's Diary

[October 5, 1775]

   5th. Congress accord. to the Order of the Day went into a Comee. of the whole &c, after some Debate a Member produced a Number of Letters from England (1) which were read & Capt. Read (2) just arrived & the Gentn. to whom the letters were wrote desired to attend the Congress.(3) Expresses sent to Genl. Washington, Govr. Cooke & Govr. Trumbull to send out several Vessels to intercept two Transports with Powder &c. Encouragement given to the Men &c, the Vessels to go on the Service to be at the Risque of the Continent.
