... Hot temperatures with areas of poor air quality expected this week...
Strong high pressure will continue to build over the region and will remain in place through Thursday. This will result in near record to record temperatures. In addition... winds will be light in most areas which will result in continued smokey conditions from area fires. The smoke will help slow daytime heating but also keep nighttime minimum temperatures warmer. As a result high temperatures are expected to be mainly between 100 and 110 degrees in the central and southern Sacramento Valley... northern San Joaquin Valley... and the Delta area. Overnight lows are forecast to be in the upper 60s near the Delta to mostly 70s in the valley. Also... hot temperatures expected in the mountains with upper 90s to around 105 expected below 5000 feet elevation with overnight lows in the 70s to 80s. Temperatures are expected to peak on Wednesday with a gradual decrease in heat Thursday into Friday. More significant cooling with improving air quality expected over the weekend.
People are advised to limit outdoor activities and prolonged exposure to the heat and smokey air... especially those with respiratory conditions and those more sensitive to heat such as the elderly and Young children.
