"Jeopardy!" milestone: grad student is top woman winner in show's history

"Jeopardy!" news: Larissa Kelly ranks as the No. 3 earner in the show's history after her seven-day run ended Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old grad student  had collected $222,597 in cash winnings. That makes her No. 1 among all "Jeopardy!" women players. She comes in No. 3 among all players. Ken Jennings remains way out in front with more than $2.5 million in winnings. David Madden is No. 2 with $430,4000.

Kelly and her husband, Jeff, plan to spend the money on a down payment for a house. He was a "Jeopardy!" contestant four years ago. Her sister Arianna will  be a contestant July 8.

Larissa is pursuing a master's degree in history at the University of California-Berkeley. She is doing archival research in Mexico City before writing her dissertation.

"Jeopardy!" history made: Grad student becomes most successful female winner

Calling all fans of "Jeopardy!" History was made Friday night.

A grad student at the University of California-Berkeley became the most successful female contestant in the show's history -- in just four games.

Larissa Kelly, 28, had won $146,197 by the end of Friday's show. Kelly, who is originally from Boston,  continues playing next week.

You can see "Jeopardy!" at 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday on WFTV-Channel 9.

Embry-Riddle professor to compete on "Jeopardy!"

Embry-Riddle Professor Tim Wilson will compete on Wednesday's "Jeopardy!"

The show will air at 7 that night on WFTV-Channel 9. But the public is invited to see the broadcast in the auditorium of the Miller Instructional Center on the Daytona Beach campus. The address: 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd.

The screening is free, but any donations will be go to the aeronautical university's Tom Hilburn Scholarship for Computer and Software Engineering.

Need more incentive to go? There will be door prizes. Yee-haw.

Wilson should be a natural for the show, which taped in February in Los Angeles. He is a computer and software engineering professor and speaker of the Faculty Senate.

Sorry, that was very un-Jeopardy-like of me.

Alex Trebek goes home, issues statement to "Jeopardy!" fans

Alextrebekst"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek left the hospital Saturday and issued a statement about his minor heart attack.

Big news: He promised he'll be back in the studio Jan. 14 to tape the game show's Teen Tournament. Trebek, who is 67, said he planned to spend the holidays at his Studio City home with his family. He was admitted to the hospital Monday.

In his statement, Trebek said: "I'm truly overwhelmed by the great show of support and compassion expressed in the past few days to me, my family and my co-workers. Even though I know "Jeopardy!" is a very popular program, I was still surprised at the number of people who took time from their schedules to call or send a note of encouragement. I thank you all so very much."

"Jeopardy!" airs in Central Florida on WFTV-Channel 9.

Sending out get-well wishes to Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek will return to tape new episodes of "Jeopardy!" next month.

This is very good news for fans of this enduring game show.

Trebek, 67, suffered what what described as a minor heart attack, "Entertainment Tonight" first reported. Trebek will be hospitalized in Los Angeles for several days.

"Jeopardy!" has remained a draw for its sturdy premise, its smart questions and its classy host.

Trebek doesn't overshadow the game. He treats the guests with humor and empathy. Viewers prize those qualities in a host.

Get well, soon, Alex. You're the best.

Get ready for the Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge

You love "Jeopardy!" and you've always wanted to play. Starting Monday, June 4, you can via your computer.

You'll play by going to Jeopardy.com and looking to Google for help for the right answer. You'll find clues at Jeopardy.com every weekday through July 13. They're calling this game the Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge.

There's a daily prize of $100 and a grand prize of $25,000. Sounds like fun. Check it out next week.

Bonnie, not Clyde, gives "Jeopardy!" a classic finish

The first three-way tie ever made Friday's "Jeopardy!" a classic for game-show fans.

The answer: "1 of the men who shot her realized when he saw her body that she'd often waited on him at a cafe in Dallas."

The question: "Who is Bonnie Parker?" (Hmmm. Maybe that's a reason to watch "Bonnie and Clyde" again.)

All three players ended the game with $16,000 and return next week. A game-theory expert said the odds of such a finish were 1 in 25 million.

"Jeopardy!" teases you to watch Friday's show

Writing a blog is all about getting your attention. We'd like to thank the fine people at "Jeopardy!" for helping.

Jeff Ritter, the show's senior publicist, sent out this item:

"This Friday, March 16th, 2007 ... and for the first time in 23 years, 'Jeopardy!' history will be made."
