Bulletin: Senators Sign Goaltender Mitchell O'Keefe To A One-year Contract
Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the signing of goaltender Mitchell O’Keefe to a one-year, entry-level contract.
O’Keefe, 24, played last season with the Ferris State Bulldogs (Michigan) of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In 24 games (22 starts), he posted a 10-8-5 record with a 2.28 goals-against average and .902 save percentage. For his efforts, O’Keefe was named Ferris State’s most valuable player for 2007-08.
He went on to finish the season with the American Hockey League’s Iowa Stars, posting a 0-1-0 record, 2.35 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in two games.
The Almonte, Ont., native, who was named Ferris State’s rookie of the year in 2005-06, completed his college career ranking second among FSU all-time leaders in goals-against average (2.68), tied for second in shutouts (six), third in save percentage (.903), fifth in both victories (31) and minutes played (5,073); tied for fifth in games played (86), sixth in total saves (2,104) and eighth in winning percentage (.453).
