Terms and Conditions of Carriage

 Aero Tropics Air Services (ATAS)

INTRODUCTION - It is incumbent on all passengers to be aware of the terms and conditions of travel with ATAS, the company therefore, accepts no liability for any claims covered within the terms and conditions for travel.

BAGGAGE AND BAGGAGE LIMITATIONS - Baggage allowances are calculated with the view that the airline operates small aircraft and to maximise safety, payload and efficiency.

Allowance for an adult is 15kgs. Allowance for a child is 10kgs. There is no allowance for infants. However, with prior notification to our reservations team, we will carry strollers and carrycots free of charge when passengers are travelling with infants. Fully collapsible wheelchairs may be carried free of charge if we are notified in advance. For health and safety reasons no single piece of baggage should exceed 32kgs in weight. Security of baggage is the responsibility of the passenger. A charge will be levied for any baggage exceeding the allowable limits.

PAYMENT METHOD - Most payment methods are available to ATAS customers and facilities are in place to make payment as convenient as possible. ATAS accepts all major credit/debit cards and also has direct deposit facilities. Cash payments may also be made at both our Cairns and Horn Island offices. ATAS does not accept personal cheques for payment of tickets.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS /CARRIAGE OF INFANTS - ATAS considers children over the age of 2 and under the age of 11 to be minors. ATAS has a policy of only allowing children older than 10 years of age to travel as unaccompanied minors, it is a requirement of passage that the child is met at the destination by a nominated parent/or guardian.

The carriage of only one infant per passenger is permitted free of charge, any additional infants are to be charged a child fare and all infants names must be notified at time of booking. ATAS reserves the right to place infants on their own seat for safety reasons. Pregnant women should consult with their medical advisor prior to flying.

DANGEROUS GOODS - Dangerous goods may not be carried. A list of common dangerous goods is displayed at check-in counters and further information is available on request. Passengers are requested to clarify any doubtful items prior to check in. Common examples are: flammable liquids and solids, poisons, corrosives, acids, wet cell batteries and compressed gases (some common camping equipment) and poisons
(not including medical prescriptions).

If a customer is in any doubt about what may or may not be considered a dangerous item, they should contact ATAS in Cairns for further advice. There are stiff penalties for persons who knowingly or unknowingly consign dangerous goods without notifying the carrier

CHECK IN AND FLIGHT CLOSURE TIMES - ATAS operates a scheduled service. To keep to these schedules we have a check-in and flight closure policy.

These policies are in place for the sole purpose of giving the best possible service to our customers. It is important for you as the passenger to be prompt for your flight. To make this happen, passengers need to be checked in and ready to depart at least 20 minutes prior to departure. This applies to outer islands as well as Horn Island. Flights will be closed 20 minutes prior to departure. Passengers will not be accepted for boarding after this time. Pilots have the right to exercise their discretion as to whether a late passenger may travel; pilots also have the right to refuse late passengers travel.

FREIGHT - Freight bookings shall be taken on a space and weight available basis. ATAS does not guarantee freight consigned to us unless a same day premium is paid. Consigning freight with ATAS may be done through our Horn Island office or through our many agents in the Torres Strait

ALCOHOL - The carriage of alcohol to many parts of the Torres Strait is not permitted. However, the main centres of Horn and Thursday Islands have licensed premises in their respective communities. Maximum penalty that a court may impose for a first offence is $37,500. For further information on alcohol restrictions you can log on to
www.liquor.qld.gov.au/Indigenous/Alcohol+Management+Plans

CARRIAGE OF ANIMALS (DOMESTIC PETS) - Domestic pets, for example dogs, cats, birds etc may be carried on  ATAS flights and are charged as excess baggage when travelling with their owners. Pets must be booked with prior notice to ATAS so as to make provision on flights for the space required by cages or carrying boxes. Descriptions and approximate weights of animals are required when booking. Pets may not be booked onto a flight that is already carrying a Natural Human Specimen (coffin). All animals need to have the appropriate quarantine and vaccination certification documents with them. Animals travelling on their own will be charged at freight rates. Guide dogs for sight and hearing impaired passengers travel free of charge and would be included in the price of the ticket purchased by said persons. Normal health criteria however, would still apply
