Banyule Council is currently undertaking a survey of some residents in Rosanna. The survey relates to playgrounds in Rosanna
Parklands (see below).
The survey questions are leading. The outcome will be biased. This survey will not help in deciding the best playground
equipment. The Rosanna Parklands 'Reference Committee' was not approached (despite the fact that this Committee was
established by the Ward Councillor to provide a forum for discussion about Rosanna Parklands).
The need for a survey indicates that the old 'Master Plan' is now inadequate. Surveying a narrow (single issue) range of potential Park
users ensures an invalid outcome. Why not survey the walkers, joggers, dog-owners, BMX'ers, cyclists, bird-watchers, nature lovers, history and heritage lovers who actually use Rosanna Parklands? What do they want?
These playgrounds should be landscaped to blend into the Parklands environment. The children's playground in the Botanic Gardens is a great example. Shade trees should be planted along with seats (preferably of natural materials) for parents/grandparents. We believe the big slide should be retained and the surrounding rockwork re-instated. Rosanna Parklands could have an adventure playground with a timber lookout tower, earthen mounds, a maze of plants, a pit of bark chips, a pipe tunnel, a small amphitheatre etc.
Some examples can be seen here:
A professional landscape designer was engaged for the recently constructed Jean Baker memorial. A similar landscape
designer should be engaged for the playground environments.
Does the above fit with future plans for Rosanna Parklands? An over-arching plan is required.
