Rosanna Parklands Consultative Committee - 17 November 2007
Posted on Saturday, November 17 @ 02:20:40 EST
Topic: RoPPA News
Issues discussed at the meeting of 13th November:
  1. Mowing regime - grass should now be cut higher than in winter and mowing should cease altogether during summer months. It seems to RoPPA that Council vehicles, including mowing equipment, create large areas of bare-earth in the summer which are a dust hazard, especially for unprotected eyes.
  2. Playground survey - a Banyule City Council staff member from the Recreation Section explained the survey. It has been sent to all houses with 500 metres of the park. If you or your neighbour haven't had one, make sure you get a copy and send it in. Results of the survey will be presented to the Consultative Committee and used to plan refurbishment works in the playground(s). Committee members are in favour of retaining the big slide; designing play spaces which complement the natural character of the park, and introducing more 'adventurous' alternatives to the painted equipment recently installed at Macleod. (Simply duplicating this type of equipment was seen as unnecessary / unimaginative.)
  3. Draft report - a report on the Rosanna Parklands Consultative Committee's first year of activities has been drafted and committee members have commented. The final version has been sent to the committee for approval and should soon be available for distribution.
  4. Area north of the boardwalk - has been cleared by Friends of Salt Creek and is currently somewhat bare. It is intended to plant Indigenous plants in the area to recreate the dense, bushy feel. Hopefully more planting and less clearing will be possible in future. The screening effects of the few dense bushy areas in the Parklands creates an interesting 'look and feel' and should be retained for landscape design impact. Clearing of these areas should be minimised until other planting has been implemented.
  5. Draft principles for managing the park: Several members of the Committee will be meeting to discuss the document and bring back a revised version to the committee. Cr Melican and Mr Benazic have agreed to look into possibilities and costs for a management plan for the park.
