Minister for Fisheries and Opposition Whip in the Legislative Council.
Bruce was born in Armadale, Western Australia and has lived and worked in country Western Australia for most of his life.
He was educated at Gosnells Primary School, Hale School and Narrogin Agricultural
College where he graduated with Honours.
Bruce and his wife Lyn have a home both in Perth and
in Bruce's electorate at Jurien Bay. They they have two
sons and a daughter - Geoffrey, Wayne
and Jennifer - and are proud grandparents.
Having farmed extensively in Koorda and Mt Barker, Bruce
was involved with local community activities and sporting events, and served
on the Koorda Shire Council for many years.
Elected a Councillor of the
Shire of Koorda in 1980 serving until 1993. He was the Deputy Shire President between 1981 and 1982 and
again between 1988 and 1992.
Bruce has enjoyed a distinguished career in
Local Government with a long association with the Country Shire Councils' Association of which he
was President between 1988 and 1990.
He was honoured in 1992 as an Honorary Life Member
of the Association.
President of the
Australian Municipal Association (WAMA) between 1990 and 1992 and nationally, Bruce served
as a Western Australian Executive Member of the Australian Local Government
Association between 1989 and 1992. He was the inaugural Chairman and
Trustee of the Country Medical Foundation.
Bruce's interests include agriculture and
country living, aquaculture, current affairs and all sports.
