Deco blasts brace as Barcelona win Spanish Supercopa
Barcelona 3-0 Espanyol (agg. 4-0)
Barcelona started their season where the left off the last campaign - winning trophies. The Spanish champions easily got the better of the Spanish Cup holders, Espanyol, 3-0, to lift their seventh Supercopa, with Deco announcing his intentions for 2006/07 by hitting a super brace.
The scoring started as early as the 3rd minute when Ronaldinho placed a pinpoint cross into the box to allow Xavi to head the ball past Espanyol goalkeeper, Carlos Kameni, and put the Catalans 1-0 ahead on the evening.
Just 10 minutes later, Belletti made a dashing run down the flank and cut the ball across the box, which found Portugal midfielder, Deco.
Deco made no mistake as he hit a first-time shot past Kameni, putting Barca 2-0 up on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.
The same duo were at it again and added another in the second half when Deco hit a superb overhead strike from another Belletti cross.
Barcelona proved to have way too much for Espanyol on the night. Fellow La Liga and European sides will have taken note that Barcelona do not look ready to give up any of their titles.
