Oldest form *ewo-, becoming *ekwo- in centum languages. 1. equestrian, equine, equitant, equitation; equisetum, from Latin equus, horse. 2. eohippus, hippocampus, Hippocrene, hippodrome, hippogriff, hippopotamus, from Greek hippos, horse.
