New Mitch Hedberg Album Coming!

April 10, 2008 AT 11:45AM | Comments (1)

Mitch1 It's been three years since we lost Mitch Hedberg, and the comedy world just hasn't been the same. But soon there will be a little something to help fill that Mitch-shaped hole in your heart. A new Mitch Hedberg CD is in the works at Comedy Central Records.

Details are limited at the moment, but I can tell you that the yet-to-be-titled album will be released on September 9 and will feature previously unreleased stand-up material as well as some bonus content.

That's all I can say for now, but as soon as I know more, you'll know more.

Meanwhile, here's a post from Punchline about the album with quotes from Hedberg's widow.

Give Me a Gallagher Too, Hold the Soy-Watermelon

March 13, 2007 AT 02:20PM | Comments (7)

Mitch_hedberg_0205Speaking of Mitch Hedberg, according to Dead-Frog, some fans of the late are honoring the standup by ordering a sandwich named for him on the day of his death:

So what exactly is a Mitch Sandwich? It's based on the second track of his album Mitch All Together where he describes a sandwich a deli owner refuses to make because it'll ruin his reputation. What's in it? Two slices of banana bread, pastrami and cottage cheese.

Mitch Hedberg Sandwich

Yuck.

The group is currently compiling a list of delis that will serve the sandwich so that his fans can eat it.

Here are a few other little-known sandwiches named after comedians:

The Jerry Seinfeld: A bowl of cereal on marble rye.

The Patton Oswalt: A failure pile of Black Angus steak, Paas Easter eggs and Stella D'ora Breakfast Treats on a sadness bun.

The Sarah Silverman: A racist joke baked inside a fluffy crust made of sunshine and kittens.

The David Cross: Gefilte fish and bacon between two slices of irony.

Got your own sammich ideas? Post them in the comments.

Introducing: Commenter of the Week

January 16, 2007 AT 04:11PM | Comments (6)

Warningsign2_1 Each Friday from now on, we will be choosing the funniest, most clever, or in the absence of any of those, most incomprehensible comment on the CC Insider and naming its author Commenter of the Week. FAQ:

Q: Does the commenter win anything?

A: No.

Q: Why?

A: Because

Q: What made you get this idea?

A: The funny comment posted by "Tanner" yesterday on a post about the Demetri Martin special, which included this description of Demetri's comedy (we've highlighted our favorite part):

"At first, I thought he was just like a Mitch Hedberg not on drugs, which was cool, but he's proved to be his own person."

Do you have what it takes to be COMMENTER OF THE WEEK? Comment away, and find out every Friday.

Your first assignment (there will be no other assignments) is to say something mean about the Commenter of the Week feature...now!

Steve Byrne Remembers Mitch Hedberg

Byrne3

(Steve Byrne with his brother in Iraq)

Comedian Steve Byrne's Comedy Central Presents special airs tonight at 9p / 8c. Steve has been doing guest blog posts this week. Learn more about Steve here.

So, here I am so close to my very own 1/2 hour Comedy Central Presents. I truly can't believe it. I remember that the very first one I saw was Mitch Hedberg's. I thought it was one of the funniest things I had seen in a long time and to this day, I think its one of the best Presents that Comedy Central has ever had. They gave Mitch a 1/2 hour of air time to do his own stand up. Now a few years later, I am in the same boat. Now immediately that tells me that the talent pool has diluted sooooo much that it has finally worked its way down to yours truly. Seriously, who is getting one next season? Dustin Diamond? Has it gotten that bad? I'll take it though and in all seriousness, its a truly flattering even for a comedian to be a part of.

Back to Mr. Hedberg, Mitch was, and with his recordings floating around out there, still is one of the best comics I've ever gotten to see or even meet. I remember meeting him in NYC at a comedy club called The Comic Strip. I was very excited to get the chance to not only meet him but be on the same show as him. I was hosting the show that night, so introducing him would be an honor. I recall meeting him brieflly in the back booth, where comics wait to go on. He had such a gentle demeanour...
