Abu-Shamala Helps Jordan National Team Win William Jones Cup

University of Minnesota senior Jamal Abu-Shamala (Shakopee, Minn.) scored 11 points to help the Jordan National Team defeat Athletes in Action 93-91 in overtime in the championship of the 30th William Jones Cup in China. The Jordan National Team, which also captured the 2007 WJ Cup, finished with a 5-1 record.


The Jordan National Team reached the championship game after defeating Australia 75-60 on July 17. Abu-Shamala, who averaged 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds heading into the WJ Cup, scored 12 points against the Australians.


The Jordan National Team will next play in the King Abdullah II Cup from July 25-31 in Jordan.
