The Los Angeles Dodgers got their first taste of Manny being Manny -- from a positive standpoint. Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer in his second game with his new club, and was mobbed by everyone in the dugout as though he did it in the ninth inning instead of the first. Although the Dodgers began their probably brief Manny Ramirez era with an outfield alignment of Ramirez in left, Andruw Jones in center and Matt Kemp in right, manager Joe Torre said that was only in deference to the fact the Dodgers were facing a nasty left-hander in Arizona's Randy Johnson.
Most of the time, though, Ramirez will start in left, with Kemp in right and Juan Pierre—the closest thing the Dodgers presently have to a pure leadoff hitter—in center.
"In all likelihood, we will see that (on Saturday night)," Torre said.
That, of course, will leave Andre Ethier in a backup role, along with Jones.
