 [End of Life Management Policy]

When products reach the end of their useful life, ASUS supports the involvement of the producer in the responsibility for proper end-of-life management. When ASUS directs the management of its products at end-of-life, we hold the following policies:

  • Exclude use of incineration as an option for all vendors managing ASUS end-of-life products in any situation
  • Prohibit the use of incarcerated labour for processing and management of ASUS end-of-life products in any situation.
  • Seek to keep the ASUS product takeback program accessible to all customers, including consumers, small businesses, and institutions ¡V but keep it in accordance with our unique stance in the marketplace.
  • Prohibit export of end-of-life electronics, components, and scrap to any countries in violation of the Basel Convention. In the U.S., we work only with vendors who have signed the Pledge of True Stewardship. www.ban.org/pledge/electronics_recycler_pledge.pdf

[Global Recycling Objective]

In 2006, ASUS collected and recycled approximately 7.2% of our global sales volume for finished products. To move a step forward, our goals for 2007 and beyond are as follows:

2007 global Takeback Goal:
The ASUS global takeback goal for 2007 is to recycle, refurbish 7.5% of the units sold in 2006 worldwide.

Other Goals and achievement:
ASUS successfully reached the 2007 takeback goal for the United States that is to expand the scope of its pilot takeback programme, i.e. from taking back notebook computers only to all ASUS's finished products (notebooks, LCD monitors, etc. ).  Free of charge, now all end-users in the United States can send back their unwanted ASUS's finished products to ASUS's contracted recyclers to be responsibly recycled.
