Updated:2008-06-11

Good news for table tennis! Japan's number one female player Ai Fukuhara will lead the way of the Japanese delegation on Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The world number thirteen is not only a popular sports personality in her home country but also a symbol for the Sino-Japanese friendship. At the press conference held on 9th June, Ai Fukuhara and the Japanese Team Captain Keiji Suzuki (Judo) were present.

Two Table Tennis Women Chosen

"I am sure I will feel the weight of the flag much heavier than it is," Fukuhara was quoted in a Japanese newspaper.

The nineteen year old will not be the only table tennis lady bearing a flag. Already a while ago, the Vanuatu National Olympic Committee announced that Priscilla Tommy was chosen to carry the flag of the island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean.
