IWF - Olympic news on Weightlifting

The following countries will send weightlifters for the first time to the Olympic Games;
- from Africa RSA South Africa
- from Asia KSA Saudi Arabia, TJK Tajikistan, VIE Vietnam
- from Europe CYP Cyprus
- from Oceania TUV Tuvalu

After Beijing the current number of nations - 137 - having participated in OG in weightlifting will rise to 143.

Weightlifters among flag bearers

Wendy Hale will be the national team's flag bearer when the 2008 Olympics open in Beijing. Hale was selected by National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands officials. Hale was also the flag bearer last year in Samoa during the opening of the South Pacific Games. Hale has just returned from New Caledonia where she trained at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute.

Sam Pera will be the flag bearer for the Cook Islands.
