Australian Science At Work is a major Austehc project which began in 1999.

Over recent years Austehc, as the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP), has accumulated a significant quantity of data relating to the organisations, agencies, corporations, businesses and societies that are the embodiment of Australian science, technology and medicine.

Building on the solid foundation of Bright Sparcs and complementing that resource of human endeavour, Australian Science At Work will document the role of industries, research organisations, scientific societies and other related organisations in transforming science into the tangible objects, buildings, and products that influence all of us and contribute so significantly to the building of our nation.

In the same way that ASAP created a system of Biographical Authority Records to support and underpin Bright Sparcs, we propose to use the same process to create Australian Science At Work - a system of Organisational Authority Records to support and underpin a web-based information resource about Australia's scientific, technological and medical institutions.

Each Authority Record will detail the history of the entity along the lines of the Bright Sparcs Biographical Authority Records, defining the entity by a short summary note, a more detailed chronological account of the history of the entity, including information about and links to predecessor and successor entities. The Authority Records will contain links to both primary and secondary source material, and may also contain links to online exhibitions and histories.

Aligned with the creation of the Authority Records will be direct outreach to the organisations concerned to establish web-links and to encourage them to actively support the maintenance of the site through on-going sponsorship.

Australian Science At Work will become the definitive resource for the organisational history of Australian science, technology and medicine.

If would like to know more about the project or have information to contribute to Australian Science at Work then please contact us.
