The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have signed a one-year affiliation agreement with the East Coast Hockey League’s Elmira Jackals. Elmira will serve as Ottawa’s secondary affiliate and will be the primary affiliate of the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators.
“The Senators organization is excited to establish a formal relationship with Elmira,” said Brent Flahr, the Senators’ director of hockey operations. “This agreement enables our organization the flexibility to move players between the ECHL and the AHL, which we feel will enable us to promote the development of the prospects in our system.”
Playing out of First Arena in Elmira, N.Y., the Jackals have been in existence since their inception as a United Hockey League franchise in 2000. The Jackals joined the ECHL prior to the 2007-08 season, posting a 41-24-3-4 record in 2007-08 before falling in five games to Reading in North Division semi-final. The club is coached by Steve Martinson, who will return for his second season at the helm of the Jackals in 2008-09.
The Jackals open their 2008-09 regular-season ECHL schedule on Friday, Oct. 17, when they host the Reading Royals.
