Good news. Herts U150 reached the ECF final for the second consecutive season, as they beat Cambridgeshire 9.5 - 6.5 in their semi-final at Stevenage. Details here.

The U100 team has reached the final of the ECF National trophy after defeating Suffolk 7.5 - 4.5 at Writtle. Details here.

Juniors - Darius Faiz-Mahdavi has qualified for the National Junior Squad.

Gabriel Gendler qualified at Yateley Manor earlier this year and Radha Jain qualified at this year’s England U11 trial which means that all of the top 6 boards from the Hertfordshire U11 2006-2007 EPSCA team are now in the squad.

James Abrams, Tom Senior and Kaz Topham are representing England in Kiev, Ukraine this weekend (24th May).

The U100 team has qualified for the semi-finals following a 7.5 - 4.5 win over Warwickshire at Pottersbury. Details here. They play Suffolk or Staffordshire in the semi-final.

According to the ECF site, our open team has a bye to the semi-finals of their competition.

U150 Warwickshire v Herts (Birmingham)

A fine win for Herts U150 as they travelled to Birmingham, took on a strong Warwickshire side, and came away with a 9-7 win, that took them through to the ECF semi-finals for a second consecutive season. Report here
 

The Under 9s achieved an excellent third place in the EPSCA finals. A very proud manager reports here.

Herts are the SCCU Open Champions following a notable victory over Surrey by 8.5 - 7.5. There was a significant grading advantage on most boards for Surrey. Full details here. Well done!

The HSCA U11 championship was won by nine year old Jakob Yianni with a perfect 6/6. Second was Rahul Rohatgi and Third place was shared by Robert Platt and Archie Hunter. Best girl was Eili Topham and the Under 9 prize went to James Colebourn and Joseph Yianni. Fuller details here.

The HSCA U9 and U14 championships were held on Sunday 13th January at Cunningham Hill School, St Albans. Under 9 winner is Lawrence Lee and the Under 14 winner is Darius Faiz-Madhavi after a play-off that saw Jake Breindel (an U10!) finish second. Details Under 9 and Under 14.

Sunday 25th November.

Our juniors were in action on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Under 14 team comfortably beat last year's SCCU winners Surrey at Potters Bar. Details here. On Sunday we held an HSCA competition at Newberries School, Radlett. Seb Larsson won the Under 9 section, Lawrence Lee won the U11 and Andrew Silverbeck won the older junior / adult section.

 

The juniors played in a five team event at Stansted winning comfortably. The team scored 36 out of a possible 48 with Jakob Yianni and Darius Faiz-Mahdavi winning all their games. More details here.

The HSCA London Junior Qualifier took place at Cunningham Hill School, St Albans on Sunday 7th October 2007. Results here U8 U10 U12 U14plus.  Congratulations to the section winners James Colebourn (U8), David Redman (U10), Darius Faiz-Mahdavi (U12) and Joshua Cavendish (U14 and others).

Welwyn Hatfield have moved to The Free Church, Church Road, (Opposite Sainsburys), Welwyn Garden City.

HSCA half-day congress coming up at Radlett.  The primary schools chess challenge is on November 18 in Letchworth.

Chairperson needed

After three years as chair of the HSCA, Sally Little is stepping down in January after the county finals. This means  someone new is required to take Herts junior chess forward in 2007 and beyond. HSCA held their London Junior Qualifier at Roundwood School. Garo Heath scored 6/6 in the U10 section whilst Avi Baruch was top U14 with Vishaal Patel and Saravanan Sathyanandha top local U12s. Full detail Under 10 and Under 12.

The County U150 team scored a comfortable 13 - 3 victory over 11 man Middlesex (5 defaults). Details here.

The first junior competition of the season was won by Matthew Gaskell with Garo Heath second and Luc Cook and Elango Madhi joint third. Luc and Madhi were Under 9 winners. Details here

WelwynHatfield now meet at The Royal Naval Association, Black Fan Road, Welwyn Garden City. The entrance to the club car park is via the Mundells exit from the one-way system. (Between Black Fan Road & Tewin Road)

The site has been unavailable for a few days whilst it was being transferred to Positive Internet.

Despite predictions to the contrary, the Herts Correspondence team were not relegated from Division 1 (Ward-Higgs) of the C&DCCC. The team scored 10 points from a maximum of 26. Graham Williams is looking for new players graded over 100. Contact Graham for more details.

 ***Little Heath and Brookmans Park win the Under 100 Final

The Under 11 team failed to capitalise on their good zonal performance and the event was won by Sussex. Ironically Sussex were only taking part because they hosted the event having narrowly missed out in the zonal! Still well done. Final scores here

Akash Jain won the EPSCA England Under 11 trial outright with 5.5/6. Well done Akash! David Lawrence scored 3 points. Ben Peacock won the Under 10 Supremo title at the Middlesex Megafinal with 6/6.
