Athletes are gearing up for the London Marathon, taking place this Sunday, 22 April.

Legendary Olympian Haile Gebrselassie is one of the favourites to win the Men’s elite race, something he has never done.

Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball player and London 2012 Ambassador Ade Adepitan has joined the wheelchair race, alongside defending champion Paralympian David Weir.

The route for the London 2012 Marathon will build on the London Marathon, passing iconic sites including the London Eye, Buckingham Place, St Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben.

A long-time supporter of London 2012, Gebrselassie said during the bid: "When you run in London it feels like the whole city has come to run with you, and the crowds cheer for every runner, wherever they are from and whatever time they achieve.

"The London 2012 Marathon route is very exciting and goes through the heart of London. I will be too old to run in that Marathon but I hope to be here with my family watching and cheering everyone on in this great city."
