All right, you asked if I brought back anything else from the recent PC Fair apart from hundreds of photographs. The answer is a definite YES. I bought a really cool Sandisk SDHC, and the capacity of this memory card isn’t small, a whooping 8GB to be exact. Four times the size of my current card, which is a 2GB Toshiba SD card.
Part of the popular “Extreme III” range, this new card is given a Class 6 speed rating guaranteeing a minimum sustained write speed of 6MB/s or more. This fast write speed is ideal for fast operations… such as burst shootings on my dSLR.
The package is so much larger than the tiny dimension of the card simply because it is bundled with a free Sandisk MicroMate USB 2.0 reader, a pouch, a CD which contains RescuePRO, and a simple manual. For your info if you were not aware, RescuePRO is a software to recover accidentally deleted files and images.
I have no idea exactly how RescuePRO works because I haven’t even used the memory card yet not to mention the software.
That’s our cool model for today. Sandisk Extreme III 8GB SDHC, which I believe is as hot and sexy as the babes we see the other day, but today’s model is good for storing thousands of photos at reasonable resolutions. I have yet to try the MicroMate USB 2.0 reader though, not sure if its transfer speed will be faster than the built in reader on my laptop. I have some doubts because the built in reader should be USB 2.0 also.
The good thing about purchasing at this time of the year is that they gave me two Petronas vouchers. RM5 each. These Petronas vouchers are usable at any Petronas petrol stations for filling up fuel, and perhaps at their convenient stores too. On top of that, they gave me a CD-RW for free too.
I Googled a while but I couldn’t find if 64GB SDHC card is available. Do you have any idea what’s the largest SDHC card available in the market now? Just curious.
If i am not mistaken 32gb. If you don mind could you give the voucher as souvenir to me…hehhehe
I got my 2GB Extreme III SD last May. http://persiaran.com/?p=272
64GB SDHC card???
That is huge. Not sure it is available at the market. I think 64GB SDHC is not available in the market due to technology constraint.
Actually I wanted to buy the external hardisk for my laptop also.. but missed it liao
good lah, can store a lot of porn to go hor!
Do you shoot RAW? If you shoot JPEG, 8GB Extreme III is an overkill.
Oh goodie! I’m thinking of getting a 8GB card as well, currently has a 4BG one. Not enough by the rate I’m clicking nowadays. LOL
How much is this one?
abeku,
Yes, I think 32GB is the biggest capacity right now.
Weilian,
Good buy, but why you didn’t get the 32GB one?
oOFooi,
No doubt, the 64GB SDHC is going to be available soon!
keeyit,
No worry, go to Lowyat plaza and you can buy one at a very competitive price.
wuching,
You know me best!
Khengsiong,
No, I don’t shoot RAW. The memory card space can never be enough, now with more capacity, I do not need to copy the photos to my computer so often. Can do that once a month perhaps.
cc,
Yes, get the 8GB SDHC. Very affordable, at RM115. Don’t forget I get two RM5 petrol vouchers too!
i wannnnnnnnn!!!

How much is it?
Walao eh~ i just bought the Lexar 4GB SDcard!

huei,
Go buy one… or two. Very cheap only.
Che-Cheh,
RM115, with RM10 total worth of free petrol vouchers.
Anston,
Never too big! The bigger the better!
wow….wat a good bargain…wat dslr are u using by the way.dunno wen will CF price become this low..lol..i have misplaced my RescuePRO cd..hahah…tot can get a copy from u:D
If you don’t copy your photos to computer, how can you post them to the Web???
Jas0n,
Yes, good bargain I thought, but I didn’t really look around, just hop to this booth and bought it. Failed to get the price lower bargaining with the salesperson.
I am using Nikon D80. You just go buy a new Sandisk memory card, then you will have the RescuePRO software lo.
Khengsiong,
Usually I keep a copy in the memory card as backup… Also, I don’t copy them to the computer all the time, some I just keep them in the memory card until I use them. So, I guess a big capacity is always useful.
32GB biggest capacity right now come from 3 company Panasonic announced a Class 6 card with blazing a 20MB/s max transfer rate when it rolls out in April ‘08 around $699US, Kingston a Class 4 card speed 4mb/s cost around $308US and Toshiba a class 4 card speed 6mb/s cost around 80,000 yen (700US). Best bet go for Panasonic 32gb SDHC card.
Jeff,
Thanks for the info,… but for the moment I don’t need 32GB yet as I do not shoot in RAW. Not to mention the price is very expensive!
have u tested it????
what are the top and average read/write speeds on a PC???
