THE EARLY YEARS:
Catherine was born March 3, 1967, in Lake County, Ohio to Alice and Ronald. She grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio with her younger brother, and always best friend, Jack. She graduated from Harbor High School in 1985. She began working at age 17 at the local Hills Department Store as a cashier, staying there through her first year of college at Kent State University's Ashtabula Campus. Then, went on to finish her degree in Telecommunications at the Main KSU campus while working at a sports store and at WKSU public radio as a newsroom assistant and a receptionist. She also worked at the student television station TV2.
After her 1989 cum laude graduation from Kent State, Catherine kept working retail to get by and landed a job doing news on Sundays at a small radio station in Geneva, Ohio, WDON. Finally, six months out of college she got her first TV job in Erie, PA at WICU where she interned the summer before. She worked there for about 3 1/2 years doing just about everything in a newsroom: reporting, fill-in anchoring, weekend weather, weekend assignment editing! Next stop: WETM in Elmira, New York where she anchored, produced and reported. Then, landed a job at WROC in Rochester, New York. She worked there for more than a year as a reporter, consumer franchise field producer and fill-in morning show producer. Finally, the job she really wanted, full-time night-side crime reporter and back-up anchor at the, then, powerhouse station in Youngstown, Ohio, WKBN. That job got her back near her family and had the potential to put a great deal of experience under her belt! In 2001, she was named morning show co-anchor at WKBN and noon show anchor was added to her responsibilities in 2003.
Catherine got married in March 2002 to Rick! He's a Youngstown State Graduate who owns a construction business. He has two wonderful, successful and beautiful grown daughters. The couple live in Boardman, Ohio with their two cats Oscar and Felix.
Catherine remains very close with her parents who still live in Ashtabula. Her father is now retired after recently selling his Clock and Lighting store. Her mother is a real estate broker who manages a real estate office in Madison, Ohio. Catherine says her parents are by far the most influential role models in her life. They both knew what they wanted and went for it and succeeded. Most importantly, they're compassionate, understanding people who always cared about others first. Catherine also remains close with her brother and his wife. They live in the Pittsburgh area where he graduated from Geneva College and manages a large furniture store.
Catherine's number one hobby is running. That's how she met her husband! She has four and a half marathons under her belt and plans to add many more with hopes of someday qualifying for the Boston marathon. She also enjoys a number of other fitness activities, biking, spinning, in-line skating, weight training, etc.--most of it with Rick right next to her.
She's also passionate about community charity work. She's helped out a number of organizations including, Easter Seals, the Alzheimer's Association, and her favorite, the American Heart Association!
