Huge explosion, fire in Toronto
Urban Survival - News
Sunday, 10 August 2008

TORONTO — A series of explosions at a propane depot early Sunday forced police to evacuate a residential area in the city's northwest. "It was just a tremendous explosion and blew all the windows out of the house, just blew the house up, and I just managed to get out of there in time," said Robert Helman, who lives across the street from the facility, which he identified as Sunrise Propane. Helman, who was covered in cuts and bruises, said when he went outside, he saw a "huge fireball" followed by "multiple explosions."

Man runs from bear and survives
Wilderness Survival - news

bearrunner.jpgAthlete knew fleeing was ill-advised but did so anyway.

Almost a week after the fright of his life, University of Alaska Anchorage cross-country runner Auston Ellis can't remember whether he heard the grizzly bear woof or a roar.

What he does remember very clearly is looking over his shoulder and seeing a huge set of jaws closing on his rump as he paused near the top of the Spencer Loop Trail on the Anchorage Hillside.

Instinctively, "I sucked in my butt." The jaws, he said, clapped shut with a snap, barely missing flesh. And then he ran.

New wasp knife video
Survival Gear - Gear

military.jpg

This weapon injects a frozen ball of compressed gas approximately the size of a basketball at 800psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world's largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released into the water. Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface.

Kickass new leatherman
Get back to basics -- the very cool basics -- with Leatherman's Skeletool CX. Today’s outdoor enthusiasts want to keep weight and volume to a minimum without sacrificing quality and true functionality, and that's what the Skeletool is all about. Many multitools have multiple options, but they’re often heavier -- and they're loaded with more features than most people actually need on a regular basis. Conversely, pocket knives are light and streamlined, but they render themselves useless when the task calls for a more versatile tool. Enter the new Skeletool platform, offering minimal weight, compact size and endless capabilities.
