Team USA Defeats Greece to Advance to the Quarterfinals

In Team USA's first real challenge at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the boys in red, white and blue took out their frustration of their disappointing 2004 loss to Greece with a convincing win against the Greek national basketball team on Thursday by a score of 92-69.

It seemed like any one's game in the first half with Greece looking surprisingly too fast for the Americans as they go out to a lead over LeBron, Kobe and company by as much as 4 points in the first quarter. Although the Greek team was playing a very up tempo game, Team USA was able to keep up with the fast paced Greece team with their own run and gun offense along with an impressive lock down defense.

One thing I have noticed more than anything out of this revamped USA basketball team besides the surprisingly good team chemistry is the Dwyane Wade playing better than I have ever seen him play. It is looking like all that time recovering from his shoulder injury has really motivated him to improve his game and get back to the status of one of the NBA's best guards.

Once again Dwyane Wade showed how good he can by continuing to impress and consistently be the best player on the Team USA squad by scoring 17 points, grabbing 6 steals and dishing out 5 assists. Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh also had notable performances by both scoring 18 points a piece, but it was Kobe's alley oop dunk from D-Wade (who was falling out of bounds while tossing the ball) that stole the show, just amazing!

Now that Team USA are 3-0 after beating China, Angola and Greece they will advance to the quarterfinals or the metal rounds where every game counts and you win or go home.

Although beating up on Greece was a huge accomplishment after getting their asses handed to them in 2004, Team USA's true test will come against Pau Gasol and his Spanish squad on Saturday, August 14th.

If Team USA can take down Gasol and his Spanish national team who are also 3-0 in these Olympics so far, then I really don't see anyone taking the Gold from this team.
