Mountaineers Reign Atop the FCS Again

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---Appalachian State claimed its third consecutive FCS National Championship by defeating Delaware 49-21 in Chattanooga.  The Mountaineers received 27 of the 28 first place votes and tallied 696 total points

 

Also receiving first place votes was Northern Iowa, with one first place vote and 571 points. Delaware placed second followed by Southern Illinois, Richmond, Massachusetts, James Madison, Eastern Washington, North Dakota State and Wofford rounding out the top 10.

 

Delaware jumped 11 spots to No.2 and Eastern Washington climbed six spots to No.8 in the poll with their playoffs success while Montana and McNeese State fell following losses in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. 

 

FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

 

The poll is available on the newly-created FCS web page that features the poll, conference scores and standings, and features on FCS programs and players. The Southern Conference oversees the poll and maintains the web site.
