The American Society of Civil Engineers annually recognizes an exemplary civil engineering project as the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA). Established in 1960, this prestigious award honors the project that best illustrates superior civil engineering skills and represents a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society. Honoring an overall project rather than an individual, the award recognizes the contributions of many engineers.
The OCEA is honored with an Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) award at the annual OPAL awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Merit award winners receive certificates at the OPAL awards ceremony. The awards are presented to the owners of the projects. The OCEA winner and the merit award-winning projects are featured in ASCE News. ASCE also promotes the project to the civil engineering trade press and the general media.
Entries may be submitted by the individual firms or agencies involved in the projects or may be nominated by an ASCE district director and must meet the eligibility and entry requirements. The deadline for entries is Oct. 1.
The OCEA award program is coordinated by the staff of Civil Engineering magazine. Download an award entry kit or contact:
