James BondWhat is “Quantum of Solace”? James Bond screenwriter Paul Haggis might not have any idea, but if MGM was kind enough to cc him on their latest press release, the Oscar-winner will gain a drool-inducing insight into the film’s plot, right alongside the rest of us.

Below is the spankin’ new, studio-approved plot summary of Bond’s 22nd flick. Does it leave you shaken, or stirred? Oh, and at the risk of sounding like a cheesy guy in an IROC is driving past us: “Spoiler alert!” Read more…

‘Bond’ Screenwriter Paul Haggis Has ‘No Idea’ What ‘Quantum Of Solace’ Means

Daniel Craig as James Bond in 'Quantum Of Solace'Some four weeks after it was announced, you’re probably still wondering what the title of the next James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace,” actually means. Star Daniel Craig insisted that the oddly-phrased moniker “ties into the plot,” but don’t tell that to the Oscar-winning writer of the script…because he’s just as confused as the rest of us.

“I have no idea,” Paul Haggis admitted when I asked him for the meaning on the Oscar red carpet Sunday. “It’s not my title.”

Following his stellar work on “Casino Royale,” Haggis passed in his second and final draft of the then-untitled 22nd Bond script just hours before the Writers Strike began. Casting, filming, and an official title have all made major headlines in the months since, all while the high-profile “Crash” writer/director has moved on to other projects. Read more…

A Whole Lot Of Monkey Business In ‘Golden Compass’

One scene in “The Golden Compass” might shock fans of the book — because Mrs. Coulter does something taboo to her monkey. And no, she’s not spanking her monkey, just slapping him. “That’s entirely different,” director Chris Weitz laughed.

So why would this be shocking? Because her monkey is her daemon, the physical manifestation of her own soul, and it’s a tad sadomasochistic, to say the least — it’s unheard of to hurt someone else’s daemon, let alone to hurt your own. And when she smacks him, she gets a red mark on her own cheek. Read more…

Abbie Cornish Denies Bond Rumors

Abbie CornishJames Bond has shaken things up with the likes of Halle Berry, Denise Richards, and Famke Janssen, but our recent assertion that Australian babe Abbie Cornish may indeed be next is just stirring up trouble, the 25-year-old reluctantly insisted.

“It’s just a rumor,” she said of persistent online speculation pegging her as the next Bond girl, which reached a fevered pitch in August when fellow Australian actress Rose Byrne told MTV News “I think Abbie Cornish’s got it.” Given the pair’s close friendship, some weight was understandably ascribed to her utterance.

According to Cornish however, there appears to be nothing to the rumors. “I haven’t had any meetings or any conversations about it, no.”

“Sorry, mate,” she added, as if in condolence.

One thing’s for sure: Daniel Craig and new director Marc Forster are gonna need someone to be the next beautiful Bond girl. So with a completely open field, who would you pick? Sound off below.

Sneak Peek At Comic-Con’s ‘Golden Compass’ Booth

Our team is on the ground in San Diego, and we’re the first inside Comic-Con!

Our friends at New Line were nice enough to sneak us in a side door and let us tour their massive display for December’s “The Golden Compass.” And to even call it a “booth” is ridiculous, because it’s big enough to house the cast of a Steve Martin family film.

The Golden Compass booth

While the hall was empty, we ran between a 10-foot-tall statue of Iorek the grizzly bear (he feels fuzzy), displays of one-of-a-kind elaborate costumes worn by Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, and even got to hold the Golden Compass itself (it weighs like 8 pounds!).

Some 140,000 people will come through here this weekend, see these props and get their photos inserted in the film’s poster. And after experiencing it all, I can honestly say it’s a glorious geek necessity this weekend.

Check out our photos of the “Golden Compass” booth.
