KELSO – Complete closure of SR 504 east of Kid Valley in Cowlitz County remains in place, after heavy rains caused an unstable slope at milepost 19.9, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Maintenance crews and message signs are preventing entry to the area. The impacted section of the highway begins approximately one mile east of Kid Valley.
The closure is necessary due to an unstable slope on this portion of the highway, which is a result of water saturated soil. WSDOT crews will be assessing the damage and stability of the slope, and devise a plan to repair it and re-open the road.
Drivers can now get real time traffic and weather information by dialing 5-1-1 from most phones. This new traveler information system builds upon the highly successful Washington State Highway hotline that managed 4.6 million calls each year. Callers can also use 5-1-1 to get statewide construction, mountain pass condition, and state ferry system information, as well as toll free numbers for passenger rail and airlines. TTY users can call 1-800-833-6388.
