    Mirror's Edge DLC In Motion

Along with the announcement of the premium Time Trial Map Pack for Mirror's Edge, DICE has released a video showing off just where and how you'll be fighting against time, and it's rather spectacular.

As someone who has never had occasion to play the game, this video, with its vertigo-inducing visuals and that catchy Still Alive song has certainly got me wondering what I've been missing. While I'm not a big fan of Time Trials, I have been known to get excited about hopping from colored box to colored box, and there's certainly a lot of that going on here. Hit the jump for some screens to go along with the video, for those of you with eyes too lazy to track movement. More »

NASCAR Kart Racing Wii Adds Much-Needed Falling Boulders To NASCAR

EA has announced a February release date for NASCAR Kart Racing for the Nintendo Wii, the game that finally adds the two elements keeping the sport from greatness - jumps and falling boulders.

Shipping to retailers on February 10th, just in time for the 2009 season, NASCAR Kart Racing lets players choose from 14 big-headed renditions of their favorite NASCAR drivers or one of 10 original animated characters, racing around treacherous tracks the likes of which we'll never see in the real sport. At first I was a bit concerned that EA felt that Wii owners couldn't handle a more realistic NASCAR experience, but then I realized that this game sounded a great deal more fun.

With 24 wacky tracks, four actual NASCAR tracks, and four-player split-screen multiplayer, NASCAR Kart Racing sounds like a lovely alternative to watching cars drive in circles for hours at a time. More »

Mirror's Edge Getting Time Trial Map Pack In January

DICE plans on keeping Mirror's Edge players on their toes next month with the January release of a downloadable Time Trial Map Pack, featuring seven new maps for your running enjoyment.

Players will be able to strive for the fastest times in nine races spread across the seven maps, all for the low price of $10 or 800 Microsoft fake monies. As an added bonus, PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download an additional map for free, because DICE loves them more.

“The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge so we decided to distil these down to their purest form for this map pack,” says Owen O’Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. “We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game.”

The Time Trial Map Pack will be available in late January for the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC version of the game, which ships on January 13th in North America. More »

What Do Some Japanese Commenters Think Of Faith From Mirror's Edge?

Yes. This. Again. We posted a fan-made reworking of Mirror's Edge protagonist, Faith. The character was designed by Westerners, and the fan-made image was not. There were obvious differences in aesthetics.

Japanese game site Game*Spark has covered the controversy, pointing out that the Kotaku comment thread was 500 plus comments strong and even going as far to translate some of YOUR comments. (Before shooting one's mouth off in the comments section, remember that lots of people read Kotaku!) More »

Some Guy Tells Us What Sold On Black Friday, And What Didn't

If we can trust their own numbers - and really, at this stage, we can't - Microsoft had a great Black Friday. Sold a ton of consoles. But what else sold?

Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian says he knows. Based on "initial checks" with retailers, a number of games have emerged as Black Friday best-sellers. And a number - some surprising titles among them - have emerged as Black Friday failures. More »

NBA Teams Scout and Evaluate Talent Using Video Game

Electronic Arts must have been pleased as hell to read, in the Los Angeles Times, that front-office types are using NBA Live 09 to help in making some of their decisions.

The NBA says about half of the league's 30 teams employ the video game in making personnel evaluations. More »

    Frankenreview: Skate It (Wii)

Combine a sport that requires you to shift your body weight atop a board and a peripheral that requires you to do the same and you've got a match made in heaven, right?

That's what EA is hoping for with Skate It, the Nintendo Wii iteration of their Skate series of skateboarding games. Taking the gameplay of the original and adding support for the Nintendo Wii Balance Board controller, EA had the chance to create the most realistic skateboarding experience to ever come to a home gaming console. Let's ask the assembled video game critics of the world how that all turned out. More »

EA Are 'Pigs' Says German Critic

Oh hey, now steady on. Can't we all just get along?

No. Not if one of us is Electronic Arts and the other is anti-games campaigner Regina Pfeiffer, sister of Criminologist and anti-games campaigner Christian Pfeiffer, previously responsible for getting Army of Two refused classification in Germany, among others.

Shouting from the audience at the Computer Game and Violence conference in Munich, Regina called EA “a pig of a company.” in protest at the company being outside the reach of her lawsuit-throwing powers. Rather than taking the high road and ignoring the comments, EA have decided to lock horns and have demanded a full apology.

“ I can only recommend that she apologises in full – at least, [she should] if she wishes to be taken seriously again in the future,” said Martin Lorber of EA Germany.

    Oh, snap. etc.

Faith Is Not A 12 Year-Old With A Boob Job

Last month we posted a fan-made image of Mirror's Edge protagonist Faith. There are obvious physical differences between them. The discrepancies extend perhaps between the two different vantage points the images belong: East and West. More »
