Fannie and Freddie: Change We Can Believe In?

I’m disgusted but unsurprised at the results of the Fannie and Freddie seizure. Markets are rallying and new hope is dawning over the houses of investment firms. Talk of liquidity is all over the place. Where there is liquidity there is risk, which means lenders will start lending again.

This really is good news for consumers, but I worry about the long term consequences of these kinds of seizures which seem to be the result of some bureaucrat deciding to simply suspend real-world economics for the sake of political expediency. I’m not terribly shocked by this; the entire idea of a government owned corporation is silly.

I think the Lyda Ann Thomas, MAYOR of GALVESTON, is an IDIOT. She should be FIRED. She did not encourage people to evacuate earlier. She actually wanted everyone to stay on Galveston initially. That is why us Galvestonians are in this mess. She should be FIRED and held accountable for those who end up dying. Here is her quote Wednesday/early Thursday: "We do not intend to evacuate Galveston Island," she said. "It's the last thing we want to do. Our job is to protect lives and property, [and] right now we feel that sheltering in place is the best action for our citizens to take."
