‘ISA is good, enforcement should be fair’ (updated)
By V.P. SUJATA
PUTRAJAYA: The Internal Security Act (ISA) is good but its enforcement should be rational and fair, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Abdullah said he was not pressured by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s threat of taking over the government on Tuesday, as it was merely Anwar’s “mirage.”
Saying in jest that he did not know Tuesday was Sept 16 and thought it was Nuzul Quran, Abdullah said Anwar did not fix a meeting with him to discuss on the MPs who were defecting and on the plan of transition of power.
“Pressured? Why should I be pressured, this is Anwar’s ‘mirage’, he sees something but it is nothing, there is nothing there, it is only a dream,” he told reporters Tuesday after meeting with secretaries-general of ministries at his office here. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Stating that he has known Anwar and his style for a very long time, Abdullah added that when Anwar wants to make known something he would ensure there are many people gathered to hear it and soon the whole world would know his message.
“You think he will be requesting me to discuss? He will storm into my room with hundreds of people screaming behind him 'victory'," he said.
Abdullah said since the taking over of the government did not take place Tuesday as Anwar planned, he was sure that the date of the takeover would be constantly changed until there is actually nothing in the end.
When asked if he would meet Anwar if there was a request, Abdullah said he would.
Speaking on de facto Law Minister Senator Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s resignation, which he rejected on Monday, Abdullah said, “The Government is strong and will not be weakened by Zaid’s resignation.”
