Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library celebrates grand opening

Charlotte Carey, a 4th grade student from Lexington, looked at books during the grand opening of the Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library.

Charlotte Carey, a 4th grade student from Lexington, was on hand with her father Burgess Carey, a member of the Lexington Public Library’s Board of Directors, for the recent opening of the new Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library. The new building is a $7.723 million, 27,818-square-foot structure. The additional square footage provides several new features, including additional meeting space, a computer classroom, a teen center, a children’s story room, a deli and a digital studio lab. The number of public computers has increased from 23 to 64.

The branch also provides a new home for Central Kentucky Radio Eye, a nonprofit organization which brings the written word to thousands of Kentuckians who are visually impaired or disabled. The library was funded by the Lexington Public Library and a state construction grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
